Re: How to stop or interrupt printing on 8700

Thanks, that's extremely helpful!

I just tried killing a print job from the "Job Status" area and it works fine. I did that without invoking 'interrupt' and it spit out a few extra pages, but no more than that.

Odd that the newer model hides the 'kill' or 'delete job' function. Maybe Xerox has concluded there aren't many users who accidentally send a long document to the printer when they only intend to print a page or two!

Interrupt is not stop. It's only purpose is to pause a current print job in order to make a copy.

The reasoning is this.

Person A sends a 400 page job to the printer, they need it "eventually", Person B is late for a meeting and needs to make a copy of a document to bring to that meeting right now.

So Person B hits the Interrupt button, the print job pauses, they make their copy, take the output and disable the Interrupt.

Person A eventually comes to the printer and gets their Output and all is well.

You can cancel a print from the computer/Mac as long as it is still in the spooler. On a Mac you get a bouncing printer icon on the doc, double slick it and you can cancel the job there, on Windows the printer icon is down by the clock. Once the job leaves the computer it can't be canceled from there. And anything processed by the printer is definitely still going to print.

At the printer you should be able to cancel a job from the Job Status screen just by selecting it. But again, it is going to print what it has ripped in any case, it won't stop immediately.

How to stop or interrupt printing on 8700

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

I often print a single page from a document I'm editing but inadvertently send the entire document to the printer.

When I press the "interrupt" button on the printer, the printing continues while the LCD screen says it's looking for the optimal place to interrupt. Then the machine pauses but I don't know what to do. If I press interrupt again, the printing resumes. If I do nothing, the job still remains in the printer waiting for a chance to complete, even though I want it to disappear.

I've studied the manuals and experimented on my own but I can't figure out how to make this action work properly. I recently upgraded from a similar printer (C2424) where this action was simple.

What am I missing?

I'd love it even more if I could kill an inadvertent print job from my PC!
