Afternoon and evening folks.
TL;DR: Xerox "ConnectKey" is the most worthless piece of garbage software I have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. What printers/manufacturer do you use (2 years old or newer ideally) in your office (50+ users) as your daily driver? The software and UX on the printer itself is just as important to me as the reliability of the printer itself.
Long story: About a month ago now we got rid of our Oce Konica Minolta printers (Due to the fact that Oce doesn't exist as a company, is part of Canon USA now) and replaced them with the Xerox Workcentre 7845 and 7855 printers. I didn't know before this that a wonderfully built printer can be such a bad printer due to it's firmware and onboard software. Print drivers sure, but this is a new one to me.
The ConnectKey software that Xerox has chosen to go with is completely and utterly useless. The three major complaints we have from our people about the software is that the software glitches and or lags for upwards of 45 seconds at a time, it's very difficult to cancel botched print jobs, and that scanning to the network drives has become very difficult (vs how easy it used to be). From my perspective, I felt it necessary to create an outage log for the 4 printers we have deployed. I should never have to create an outage log FOR PRINTERS. The worst we had on the Konica Minolta printers was a jam. These have had firmware issues, main board failures, paper jams where paper shouldn't even be, issues that require a "Pull the power cord, wait 15 second" approach, and the general feeling in the office that they are poor machines at best. As a timeframe reference, we've had these printers for approximately 18 business days. The Oce Konica Minolta printers were operational for upwards of 900.
Way too many problems, way too soon.
While launch Connectkey firmware was a bit lacking, everything you are describing was resolved in later builds of firmware, to the point they are remarkably stable at this point.
There is literally nothing on the printer that would take 45 seconds to occur unless it is in full energy saver mode where everything has shut off and cooled down.Even then, 45 seconds would be odd
And I can't fathom how scanning became difficult.
Touch email > enter address > touch start
Touch Workflow scanning > Touch desired Workflow > Touch start
Stick USB stick into USB port > Pick Scan to > Touch start
In the last 2 years, Xerox released the AltaLink family (which is built on Connectkey) and VersaLink family (FujiXerox)
This is a Xerox forum, if you want unbiased opinions on other manufacturers you should try a forum that isn't owned by a printer company
