Joe is correct. This (unfortunately) is far from trivial.
The way xerox handles lost passwords on their hardware is infuriating to me. Fat-finger or lose a password, and a service call is required. Theoretically, I could lose an admin password to a windows 10 PC, re-image, and be up and running again in 20 minutes. Imagine if Dell or HP had to roll a truck to your site every time an employee left your company without giving up their workstation password.
The argument that this is a security feature isn't persuasive to me. At the very least, I should be able to return my machine to an out-of-the-box state if necessary.
It can only be done via wiping the device, which requires a technician, If you could easily bypass the admin, it would not have a purpose, for security reasons, and legal protection, it is better that the device has to wiped out completely, else someone could get into someone elses MFP and obtain info they should not have access to.
VersaLink has to be wiped via Diagnostic mode/Special Boot mode when you don't have the admin credentials, so you can't simply follow the Altboot procedure that Xerox's use with the Discovery/Connectkey and AltaLink family do from USB, which is why it requires a tech.
Hello, I have a problem with password on my multifunction device Xerox c7020. I propably made a mistake when I first password set. What is the way to reset that device to factory default without admin password ? thanks
