UPDATE: Re: Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite - does not work with Phaser 7760

Jump to solution

Hi All

It looks as though Apple have now included the Xerox Phaser 7760 print driver in the Xerox Printer Software Update v 2.3

You can download it from here if the update doesn't show in SU.

http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1735?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

If you Delete the Phaser 7760 in Preferences > Printers & Scanners, run the update, add printer and pull down to Select Software and from the list of printers that appears in a new dialogue bod scroll down to Xerox Phaser 7760 (whatever version you have).

Just to let you know, in my experience with this issue, I  tried installing a new full installation of 10.10.2 downloaded from the App Store, also I downloaded a Combo version of 10.10.2, but the Phaser 7760 print driver wasn't  included in either of these updates.

Hope this helps anyone still having problems.

Regards

Paul

Re: Mac OSX 10.10 Yosemite - does not work with Phaser 7760

Hi! =)

Just got my Phaser 7760GX installed okay with Yosemite, using just a simple trick.

There's a plist file in OSX which states the version of OSX - in this case - mine was 10.10.1

I changed this to 10.9.5 - which is Mavericks, and the driver then installs fine.

Once the driver is installed, you can put your OSX version number back to 10.10.1 or whatever it was in the first place, and your Xerox Phaser driver will still work, =).

The only reason the current drivers don't work, is because they're not expecting the OS version number to be higher than OSX 10.9.x.

The file with the version number to change, is SystemVersion.plist and it is found in your hard drive, in the system folder, in the library folder, inside of the CoreServices folder (Harddrive->System->Library->CoreServices). You won't have permission to change the file at first, but you can either change permissions on the file to allow it to be edited (right click the file and choose GET INFO, then edit the Sharing & Permissions settings for the file), or simply make a copy of the file on your desktop, edit that version, and then copy it back to the CoreServices folder. Also, it's good practice to make a copy of the original file before you make any changes, just as a backup, =).

There are two other applications that require this trick to work in Yosemite - Media 100 a video editing app, and Matlab - and there are video tutorials online to show you how to change SystemVersion.plist for installing either of those. Well, it's exactly the same for installing the Phaser 7760 Xerox drivers! =).

Here's a link to the general SystemVersion.plist trick:

http://www.macbreaker.com/2012/01/how-to-spoof-your-version-of-mac-os-x.html

Here's a link to how I used it to install Media100 (probably the clearest steps):

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152394100812015

Here's a link to how someone else used the trick to install Matlab:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoQnzIyOkB0

The great thing about the Xerox Phaser 7760 drivers, is they work under Yosemite just fine! =). It's the install process that doesn't work. >_<. So once you've edited SystemVersion.plist in order to install the drivers, and then put it back to how it was afterwards, you'll never need to fiddle with it again! =D. Once the Xerox drivers are installed, you'll be able to print to the 7760 whatever your OSX version number, ^_^.

Thanks for sharing the .PPD file, our printer works again, without having to wait for ages before something to get printed.

I rolled back my driver to get the most from my Phaser... rolling back to 10.9 did nothing but rolling back to 10.8 and magically everything connected and started communicating as normal, with all the printer options I'm used to. Don't know if that would work for everyone but after pulling my hair out over the past month this has been working for the last several days, incident-free.

[See edit below]

it's not allowing me to print Tabloid, no matter what I do it grabs 8.5x11 from the bytpass tray and prints a tablioid sized image onto the center of the page so everything around it cuts off.

tried resetting the printing system and rebuilding the printers, connecting trhough IP on our LAN.

[EDIT]

apparently if OS X "finds" the drivers for you automatically it doesn't work,

When I first did the printer install after resetting the print system Yosemite said there was a printer update, I let it run and Yosemite found the printer and installed it, at that point the other tray options showed but did not work.

When I did another printer instlall right after I chose "other" from the bottom of the pull down, then navigagte to the PPD it allowed me to use the other functions of the Printer.

if anyones does use the Reset Printing System before trying this PPD keep in mind any Printer you have in your printers list will be removed and you will need to reinstall them.

thanks!

I had the same problem. I built a new MacPro and the driver didn't work with Yosemite and it didn't work, I have also had printing failure on a MacBook Pro which was updated from Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, repairing permissions didn't fix it either.

I called Xerox and they gave me another driver which worked but before printing a job it printed out an A3 page of code! Also didn't have many printer specific options as with the previous driver. I contacted the Xerox Reseller we purchased the printer from, and they sent me another driver which works but doesn't have the paper feed options, specific to printing on card, thick card, transparency etc.

I am hoping that Xerox will get to work and release the Yosemite Driver for the Phaser 7760 soon, but this driver does help in the meantime.

If any of you who are having the same problem would like to download and try it for yourselves, you can find it here: https://darkhorseagency.sharefile.com/d/seb9aca3668f4b57b

Put the .PPD file in HD>Library>Printers>PPDs. Good luck.

Cheers

Paul

PS In excess of 70 people have downloaded the driver I uploaded to the FTP site, this is supposed to be a Xerox User Help Forum, not one person has posted their experiences on whether the driver worked for them or not, or other work arounds to fix this issue! Come on guys, share your experiences and help others in the process. Rant over ;-)

Hi, Danny!

Reinstalling the driver could possibly fix this issue.

I have no clue if there will be any driver for 10.10 as there is no compatibility list available yet.

Is there any way to get the regular papersizes available? I can print just fine from yosemite, but dont have A3 as paper size option nor any of the other sizes.
Or is there a beta driver for Yosemite? It's only paper sizes problem for me..
