Item 11 in the getting started guide "NFC Area allows pairing with a mobile device to print or scan from an app".

Exactly as I stated, it is to initiate a connection (ala pairing), not how to print/scan. You are misunderstanding NFC tech, this isn't a Xerox issue, It is a protocol

This is the you tube video I saw that lead me to beleive that Tap to print was a useable feature.

That video states that the printer and phone have to be on the same network as well, it's the 2nd sentence in the video and it happens right here at the 36 second mark. It is a usable feature

I do realize this is a Fuji/Xerox from the UK,

It's FujiXerox Australia, but it could be from Canon and Konica and the same information would be shared, NFC isn't a print protocol.

You may have misunderstood what the NFC tech is for.

NFC is only there to make one touch configuration possible, it is in no way used to actually print.

 The phone and printer need to be on the same LAN, if they are not on the same LAN, NFC is useless, because all it does is announce the IP address, hostname, MAC address and the fact that it is indeed a printer. (This is listed in the first sentence of the pdf you linked, of which, I was the Author)

If the phone cannot reach the IP of the printer (And since you mention they have a wireless network buyt no access to the printer on it this is their case) there is no chance a print will work.

Since they need NFC it is safe to assume an Android environment and not Apple iOS, and if that is the case, they might as well get the WiFi dongle and simply enable WiFi Direct instead, then they can print from Android devices and they won't even need to pair it.

I have been unable to print using the Near Field Communication feature/NFC on the Altalink C8055 & C8070.  We have a customer who purchased the AltaLink products because they want to be able to Android NFC print to the devices.  The have a wireless network but can not print wireless to them because their wireless network is on a different subnet than their Ethernet network and the machines are on the Ethernet network.  I have spoke to Xerox support and 2nd level support and they sent me a how to use NFC to print but I am still unable to get it to work.  I have upgraded both machines to the latest firmware the C8055 has 100.002.107.34110 and the C8070 has 100.003.107.34110.  I have disabled NFC rebooted and reenaabled it.  When I place my Samsung S9 up to the NFC logo my device makes the NFC tone so I know the receiver is working on the Xerox devices.  When I am at the Xerox machine with a document open I press the 3 dots on the top of the  screen and pull up the print box and go to all printers and add a printer and choose NFI it searches then comes back with no compatible printers found.  I have attached a couple screen shots and the NFC printing instructions from 2nd Level support.
