We are brand new owners of a used Doc242. And somewhat new to dry printing.
Previous owner lost the dongle for the EFI impose software and we are trying to get a replacement for it.
For some reason I have been unable to find anyone at EFI or Xerox who can help.
Since we are new to the Xerox system I do not have many connections to try ( or even a salesman).
Any assistance / suggestions would be appreciated.
From similar cases I have seen in the past, you will have to buy a new dongle from your local Xerox rep. Dongles are not usually replaced by software companies for free if you have lost them. My suggestion is, just purchase a new one, it will pay for itself quickly if you do a lot of work that requires imposition.
If you cannot find a local Xerox rep. for some reason, you can purchase them directly from EFI's online store:
$2500 seems steep for a switch that turns on software that has already been paid for.
They only list the entire program package at that site. Do you know of any way to purchase just the dongle?
Thanks for trying
Unfortunately, no. A dongle is a security measure to ensure that the user has paid to use the software. The dongle should be guarded as any other piece of hardware. If you were sold the 242 with the understanding that it came with SeeQuence Impose, then it should include the dongle. Your beef should be with seller since they could have sold the dongle (and I am not saying that they have)separately to someone else. The software itself is fairly easy to obtain for free for people who are willing to break some laws, the dongle, however is not.
