Re: New Mac OS Driver v 4.9.0(1931) problems with El Capitan

Since you believe the firmware on the printer is the issue, just call Xerox and have them format the printer completely and then load whatever firmware you have proved to work.

The fact it happens to every single printer with a Xerox 4.X driver completely negates that of course, as does the fact that simply removing the 4.X driver and installing a 3.X driver brings it (Xerox Features) back, as does the fact that plugins from every single print manufacturer that supports accounting has exactly the same issue.

But since I am wrong at all of that, and you know for certain that the printer firmware is the problem, all you need to do is have the printer downgraded, and since you spoke to 2nd level support already, there is no cost, only people with active maintenance agreements have access to 2nd level, which means onsite hardware techs are 100% covered by your agreement, and that tech is the one who will do the downgrade and wipe (You want to wipe it because you can't be certain that no newer firmware content is left behind to get in the way)

Here is the complete list of firmware versions for your 4265 including their release dates, the tech can obtain whichever one you want.

Re: New Mac OS Driver v 4.9.0(1931) problems with El Capitan

Your posits, as well as similar claims from Xerox Level 2 & 3 software support, are inaccurate. In an unnecessarily protracted conversation with your Xerox software support, we repeatedly and in detail explained the circumstances involving this frustrating issue.

We truly have a difficult time comprehending why Xerox "support" has not grasped the various scenarios involving this bothersome, vexing driver issue. E.g. we explained in several different ways, some as simply as possible, that we had been using 4.14* Xerox drivers (WorkCentre 4265) with no issues whatsoever for Microsoft Office 2011 products. I.e. we could print labels, envelopes, letters, etc. using "XeroxFeatures" from the 4265 4.14 drivers, UNTIL we update the firmware in June 2018. Even afterwards, we were able to print with access to "XeroxFeatures" on the 4.14 drivers.

For some unknown reason, we decided to download that identical driver, from the Xerox site, after successfully using the "XeroxFeatures" option. After "reintalling" those same print drivers, we noticed the crossed or "lined" out "XeroxFeatures" from the driver drop-down options, again, same driver, identical to the vs. we had been using with no driver malfunctions (loss of "XeroxFeatures" option). This is where Xerox (software support) failed to grasp our circumstances, despite our numerous explanations. We even asked software support why they thought we could print media using "XeroxFeatures" with the 4.14 drivers but after reinstalling those drivers, the "XeroxFeatures" option was unavailable. You simply cannot grasp that.

The Xerox software support "technician" we spoke with in that conversation, "Ed", so much as implied that we were lying about past and subsequent printing feautures' functionality. When we bluntly asked "Ed" if he thought we were lying, he responded that "Well no other customers or users are having these issues."

Approximately 2 weeks later, we received a follow-up call from Xerox software support's "Ed," offering his apologies. After his management reviewed our conversation, Xerox software support investigated the issue more thoroughly. Ed apologized that there were (and are) numerous users who were having (and still are) the same issues we experienced, inability to print the same Office 2011 special media (envelopes, labels, heavy stock, etc) after installing the firmware update that we were able to print PRIOR to that, once again, with the SAME 4.14 print drivers.

So, as we did with software support, a simple, very basic overview of this Xerox driver malfunction:

  1. able to print Office 2011 documents using "XeroxFeatures" from 4.14 driver's dropdown options, PRIOR to firmware update in May or June of 2018
  2. UNABLE to print Office 2011 using "XeroxFeatures" after reinstalling 4.14 drivers after the firmware update.
  3. No changes, updates, etc. to OS X system, applications, etc prior to reinstalling 4.14 drivers NOR after.

Therefore, it seems Xerox is still in a state of denial with regards to this vexing, productivity bottlenecking issue.

Xerox Features will show up only in 64bit apps if you have a 4.x or newer driver...

Xerox continued to support 32/64-bit applications until June 2017 when we released the new 4.x version of the print driver...

The v4.x driver is 64-bit only, supports macOS 10.11 through 10.13 and is the only macOS driver that will continue to add new printers. The most well-known application that is 32-bit is Microsoft Office 2011...

Re: New Mac OS Driver v 4.9.0(1931) problems with El Capitan

I don't get that error unless from within a 32bit app (Office 2011 specifically does that).

There should not be a Printer features, it should be a Xerox features if you are seeing that in  every app, reset your print system and reinstall then reboot, If you are seeing it in 32 bit apps only, it is a known issue.

Xerox Features will show up only in 64bit apps if you have a 4.x or newer driver.

3.X will work fine, until you get to a printer that isn't supported by them (Devices that came with or after the 4.x did)

Mac OS X 10.8 is the first OS that required 64-bit hardware, and the last OS that will run 32-bit applications “without compromises” is macOS 10.13, with a requirement that all applications are 64-bit by June 2018. Apple had previously requested Xerox continue to produce 32/64-bit drivers until the release of 10.12 at which point we were allowed to remove 32-bit support. Xerox continued to support 32/64-bit applications until June 2017 when we released the new 4.x version of the print driver.

The v4.x driver is 64-bit only, supports macOS 10.11 through 10.13 and is the only macOS driver that will continue to add new printers. The most well-known application that is 32-bit is Microsoft Office 2011, which Microsoft officially ended support for in 2016.

To verify if the application in use is 32 bit perform the following steps:

  1. On the Mac OSX open Finder

1a. Select Go

  1. Select Applications
  2. Select the Native Mac Application that you would like to use (i.e. Text Editor, Safari, stickies, etc...)

3a. Select File

  1. Select Get Info
  2. Select Open in 32 bit mode

As a workaround you should be able  to use the dropdown in the bottom left corner to open PDF preview and print using Xerox Features to print.

It also seems to work where you can create a preset with the accounting information in it outside of the 32 bit application, save it, and select it within the 32 bit app when printing. (This is by far the simplest method)

Re: New Mac OS Driver v 4.9.0(1931) problems with El Capitan

Hi

#1.  Ver 4.12 gives the same error: bundle "XeroxFeatures" couldnt be loaded because it doesnt contain a version for the current architecture

#2.  In Printer Features, Feature set: Advanced 2, it shows Accounting System, Xerox Standard Accounting, Accounting prompt: Always prompt.  No popup from any application

Re: New Mac OS Driver v 4.9.0(1931) problems with El Capitan

Multiple things to try.

1. Update the driver to this one and just ignore that it is listed for the 76XX, it will update you to 4.12.0(1937)

2. Create a preset in something that works, then try using the preset in MS Office, it should work

New Mac OS Driver v 4.9.0(1931) problems with El Capitan

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

on 1 Jan 2018, the new version mentioned above was available to download via the Xerox Versalink C7030 Drivers section

End user is MacOS 10.11 (el Capitan)

Machine is Xerox Versalink C7030

Accounting is turned on at the machine, track prints and copies

Driver installed.

Launched cups (localhost:631)

Chose Versalink C7030 and "Set default options"

Chose Advanced on horizontal header.

Scrolled down to accounting section

Accounting System: Xerox Standard Accounting

Accounting Prompt: Always prompt

XRAccountingMaskUserID: Disabled

XRAccountingMaskAccountID:Disabled

Pressed button to "Set default options

So, the behavior is that in MS OFfice, when printing, should get popup.

No popup

OPen up document in Excel.  Choose Xerox Versalink, try to choose Xerox features, but it tells me  - bundle "XeroxFeatures" couldnt be loaded because it doesnt contain a version for the current architecture

Further more, in Printer Features, Feature set: Advanced 2, it shows Accounting System, Xerox Standard Accounting, Accounting prompt: Always prompt,

So Im stuck, the Xerox features wont load and the printer features are configured per the default printing options but NO POPUP

Any advice?

Peter
