Re: Override paper mismatch

Jump to solution

My C405 printer knows that I'm printing labels or cardstock but it refuses to print without telling the printer on its console that this is the kind of paper to use.  Once done, you can no longer print plain paper without a change back.  I don't want to have to tell the printer to change the tray paper type with every print.  Why can't this be automatic - like every other printer?!?!?  I have succesfully done the "When Specified Paper is Unavailable" setting to "Letter/A4 Substitution" but why would that be a fix for paper type?  Not just size?!?!?  And what is the "Adjust Paper Type" in config all about?

Hi Joe, I have a Versalink c400DN and it is set up for A4 paper size, which is what I want EXCEPT that the paper supply is set for Letter size. I have logged on to the website and followed your instructions BUT in 'Printer Settings' it looks the same as your screen shot except that it does NOT show 'specified paper is unavailable'. Please let me know what I need to do to correct the paper set-up/paper supply mismatch. Thanks

Mike

I just heard from one of the other users of the system that they tested it over the weekend and it worked fine.

Thank you so much!

Thanks!  Sorry it took so long, but I don't have the printer password and had to get an IT person to do the configuration over the network.  They don't have easy physical access to the printer, and it then took a few days for me to get in to test it.

I think it's working!  It still complains if you try to print an A4 document from a USB stick, but as best I can tell, it prints OK from a computer on the network.  I tried printing from one program that has been a problem, and that worked OK.  I created an A4 document in OpenOffice & sent that to the printer, and that worked as well.  Opening & printing an A4 PDF also works, but I don't trust the PDF viewer not to mess with the paper size behind my back.

The real test will be in a few weeks when we run the full system again.  It's more than a bit complicated, with three laptops running different programs all talking to each other.  If the other program that has been insisting on sending A4 jobs prints OK, then we are golden.

I'll report back once we know for certain.

Device is the printer

Network printers are configured within their internal webpage, which is what my screenshots come from.

Take the IP address of the printer (1), and put it in your web browser address bar (2) to access it.

(1) To view the IP address of the printer on the control panel:

  1. At the printer control panel, press the Home button.
  2. Touch Device > About.
  3. Record the IP address from the display.
  4. To return to the Home screen, press the Home button.

To obtain the printer IP address from the Configuration Report:

  1. At the printer control panel, press the Home button.
  2. Touch Device > About > Information Pages.
  3. Touch Configuration Report. The IP address appears in the Connectivity section of the Configuration Report for IPv4 or IPv6.
  4. To return to the Home screen, press the Home button.

Thank you for taking the time to grab all those images.

When you say "device", do you mean the physical printer, or under "Devices" in Windows Setup?  When I say "driver", I mean the settings you can access under Devices in Windows Setup, which are the same options you get if you print normally and are given access to the printer "Preferences/Properties."

It looks like the images you collected are from Windows screen shots, in which case what you are displaying are options in the Windows printing software and/or driver.

For this printer & the driver I have installed, there is nothing that looks even remotely like the screen shots you displayed.  Both the printer control panel and the Windows software are vastly simpler than what you show, with a LOT fewer options.  There may be a more sophisticated driver I can download & install, but the one Windows 10 finds automatically when you first connect to the printer is way too simplistic to deal with this issue.

In looking at the Xerox driver download page for the B600 printer, there are 7 different options.  It appears the default I have is the V4 Postscript driver.  If I equate file size with sophistication & features, the PCL6 driver won't be any more flexible.  There is a very large "Xerox Smart Start – Driver Installer" file, but I suspect it just lets you select & install one of the other options.

You set it up on the device, not the driver

Override paper mismatch

Jump to solution
Product Name: VersaLink B600/B610 Printer
Operating System: Windows 10

We are in the USA, and have our printer Tray 1 loaded with Letter size paper (8 1/2" x 11").  We have a Swiss software program that insists on sending print jobs on A4 paper.  It also saves the information as PDF's, again, specifying A4 paper.

I haven't been able to find anyway in the driver or in the printer controls to tell it to go ahead and print on the Letter size paper.   The only option we have at this time seems to be cancelling the (multiple) print jobs one at a time from the printer touch screen, and then using the front USB port with a thumbdrive to print the PDF's.  When you do that, you can switch the paper size from "Automatic" to Letter in Tray 1, and it prints them just fine.

We went into the driver printer preferences, and told it to use Tray 1 for the paper source, with the paper size set to Letter.  If I print one of the A4 PDF's from a PDF viewer on the computer, it prints just fine.  However, there is something about the automatic printing from the Swiss program that seems to ignore the driver settings, and it still locks up the printer, demanding A4 paper.

Is there another driver that we can use with this printer?  I know many drivers have a setting to automatically scale print jobs to fit the selected paper source, but that features is absent in this driver.  The one we have is the one Windows 10 finds automatically, which appears to be "Xerox Versalink B600 V4 PS".

Alternatively, is there a setting I can access from the touch screen panel to lock in the equivalent of what I do with the manual USB PDF printing process?

Thanks!
