Paper Weight Settings C405

Hi there,

One of the core aspects of my business is printing labels to go on Champagne bottles. For a while now I keep ghetting a problem where at the bottom of the label there is a white patch, the problem is intermittent but it has still been driving me crazy.

My label supplier says that I need to change my settings, apparently the default setting is for standard A4, but as I am using a heavier type of paper I should choose a heavier option in the settings which in theory should make the paper go through slower and allow the ink to print more evently. It sounds fairly logical but I can;t find where that setting is, can anyone advise where I can change this?

Hi,

The bypass tray have the selecyion named "Labels", tray 1 does not have that selection.

Hi there, thank you for the reply.

My apologies, I may have not explained it properly - my labels are being fed via the bypass tray, but when printed it has a white patch at the bottom.

The best way to explain it is to show you an example, and here is an image on my site where I have photoshopped but you can still see the issue, please see this label

If you look closely at the bottom of the label you will see it is a different colour, when it prints that is totally white and I understand it is due to not having the correct paper weight settings, Is this correct, and if so how do i fix this?

Thanks for the additional information. Please share the weight of the paper in GSM that you are using as listed on the package so we can best advise you. You can arbitrarily try different paper types when loading the paper in the tray, start with Cardstock, but we'd like to avoid that experimentation if we can.

Paper weight settings aside I recommend that you try feeding the paper differently then you currently are unless you have already tried that. So if you're currently loading the paper in portrait orientation (Long Edge Feed) try loading the paper in landscape orientation (Short Edge Feed) and see if the issue goes away. This may have more to do with the makeup of the paper itself and less to do with type settings on the machine and a different paper feed orientation may yield different results.

If you run the paper in a different orientation, the defect still appears on the sheet, and we can determine that it's in the same spot as it was before, but running in a different direction due to the different orientation, then we might need to think about serviceable issues.

Hi there, the weight is 75GSM, any idea how I can set this on my printer so I can test if this is the problem?

75GSM is fairly light and the labels type should cover it. Adjustments are avialable to the various types but on my reference machine (VersaLink C7030) labels is not an adjustable type. Configuring settings for custom paper is covered on page 114 of the system administrator guide for your model found at the link below.

I suggest setting your paper type when you load the paper to Lightweight Cardstock at first to see what results you get before moving on to trying to customize paper settings. If you still can't get to where you need to be there are many adjustments that are available to a qualified service technician that affect things like the fusing speed for specific types of paper. If you have a service contract I recommend creating a call for a Xerox technician if you are unable to get the results that you desire through the tools that are available to end users.

Also ensure that your print quality setting in your print driver is set to Enhanced rather than the default of Standard when submitting the job. I don't think that's what is causing this but it's worth experimenting with.

If you are able to resolve this please reply to this discussion with details about what you ultimately did to resolve this for the benefit of the community.
