Hi jsmephdoc,
Thank you for using the Support Forum. From the knowledge base for your machine:
Once a printer has been installed in Mac OS X, the features for that printer at the time of installation are static. If an additional paper tray is added, more memory, hard drive, duplex unit, or other feature, these will not be recognized when printing. This is an issue with the Macintosh operating system. Apple intends to resolve this in a future update to OS X.
To work around this problem, the printer must first be deleted, then set up again.
Please delete the printer and reinstall. If this does not help please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.
I've just acquired a second starndard paper tray for my Phaser 4400. Initially, I did not understand that I needed to set the paper size BOTH in the printer driver for individual print jobs AND in the small LCD window on the printer itself.
The menus for the MultiPurposeTray list many sizes of paper. On my printer, the menus don't list ANY paper sizes, but the do allow me to set "custom" sizes. I'm assuming that I've done something wrong, because why would standard paper sizes such as letter and legal, 5/7, #10 envelope, etc. not be listed for "Tray 1" when they all are for the multipurpose tray.
Now I have letter stock in one tray, legal in the other, but each time I change trays, I must "tell" the printer what paper size each tray has by scrolling the X and Y dimensions for the paper, rather than slecting "letter" or "legal."
The Printable Pages Map suggests many other paper sizes should appear in the menu in the LCD window. They do, but only for the MPT.
MacOS 10.12.4, Phaser 4400DT with 64 MB RAM and duplexer.
Thanks so much for any help!!!!!!!!!
