Re: Phaser 6022 replace carts before empty ? OK ?

Jump to solution

Wow.  That's a really good answer.

"great idea" - - - > "bad idea"

I had no idea about the hopper thing.

You know, I like how this printer gives a "smooth, processed" feel to the entire page, including the white areas.

Thanks, Joe.  Without your answer I would have, as backups, an "unusable clump of moist ink" in the cartridges.

Bad idea for multiple reasons.

Once a toner is put in the machine and used it has started outputting the toner into a hopper. They are not designed to be stored this way, it will be garbage almost certainly after 6 months. It might just work, but it won't work right.

And , I can't be certain, but it is likely, that the carts have what is essentially a fuse. The fuse blows when you install the new cart. When the toner empties and sends the signal to the device to Replace Magenta Toner, the message will not clear until you put in a cartridge with the unblown fuse (to reset the message). I have not taken one of these cartridges apart, but most phasers work this way.

So even if the toner doesn't end up an unusable clump due to moisture getting into the cartridge, it will likely still be unusable anyway.

So , you can, but I highly advise against it. The chances against it working are vastly higher than getting a defective cartridge.

Phaser 6022 replace carts before empty ? OK ?

Jump to solution
Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Just got the Phaser 6022.  I want to immediately (1 week use) replace the starter carts and save them.  Replace with new full carts and save the starters for backup, since I KNOW that they are OK.  Don't want to have extra carts on hand and then learn that they are defective -- just when I need them.

Will this cause problems?  Will I lose pages through some counting mechanism, by swapping them out during the middle?
