I think a couple of tricks could help the diagnosis.
Dont replace the cartridge with a new one, either genuine or not. If the problem is in black, just remove the "black"chip and intall it in cyan. Put cyan in place of black and print. If it is still faint cyan then the problem has nothing to do with cartridge. Then the problem is probably the imaging unit.
Now whether the printer can itself repair low density black or not is still a matter of luck
Hello, I've got thie same problem with my Phaser 6125 after 2356 pages. Ok after wasting hours of trying rejecting etc etc solutions, web searching, expert opinions i think that is illusional to solve this.
Xerox says.... pay your kidney, replace cartridges and blah blah blah.. replace imaging unit blahblahblah that sounds ridicilious (to pay xerox 80 +200 and who knows what else and not dispose this trash with a brand new canon, HP, samsung....)
According to 2 of our previous reports i understood that somehow the printer understand under unknown circumstances that "'black density is low'' and try to perform autorepair. I think that these are the only reliable testimonials.
Until now, why the printer does not realise that black density is low, and when this message will come in print screen eventyally nobodyknows....
I ll try a last full reset of printer functions, doesn't know how ( but nothing to loose) and after that it goes for recycling...
The Solution (uhm .... about gray printing instead of black.)
On the controlpanel of the printer: start the menu
Choose Admin Menu \ Maintenance Mode \ Drum Refresh
Well, that took some time, and then de display said: "Low density toner".
I just ignored that; I switched the power off en after 30 seconds I switched it on again.
And ..... the black was black again!
Hello, I've got thie same problem on my Phaser 6125. I've followed the messages & printed the error log & got 2 entries at 1034pages; IOT Exit Jam; IOT EXit Off Jam. I've looked but can't see any sign of any jam. Could someone help/explain these errors. Many thanks
The fault(s) indicate a fuser error. The next time you experience this issue, try to remove and reinstall the fuser module. If that doesn't help, then you'll probably need to call and schedule a service call with a Xerox Technician. Glad to hear that your machine seems to be up and running again.

Thanks JohnM
There are 4 entries under 'system fail history' listed against 'total print count' of 29/35/35/37 which makes these very old. Exact chain link (all 4 are identical) is

Hello bigwold,
Can you take a look at the error history report and tell us what and when the most recent three errors were that occurred? This might give us an idea of what happened without getting into machine logs and other tricky stuff.
Here's how to get the report if you're not sure how...
1. Press the [Menu] button on the Control Panel.
2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until 'Information Pages' is selected on the Display Screen, and then press the [OK] button.
3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until 'Error History' is selected, and then press the [OK] button. The report will print.
4. Press the [Menu] button to exit.
An interesting development yesterday - a message appeared something like 'low density black'. Printer wouldn't respond so I restarted it. It then spent several minutes on 'configuration' with a whirring sound I hadn't heard before from behind the toner access door, and then, prints were back to normal.
Any idea what has been going on, or how I can trigger the fix manually in case I have the same problem again? I'm assuming it's some sort of toner starvation but why/how?
It seems as though there is a hardware issue since I think you tried a new toner cartridge already??? If not, and you have an extra cartridge available, you can try a replacement cartridge. Outside of that, there isn't anything else that I can do remotely. You will have to contact Xerox Service to schedule a technician to look at it.

Thanks for your reply JohnM
Printer generated reports are faded the same as PC generated prints.
The demo page (two horses and jockeys) compared with one I printed when printer was new, is very slightly paler overall, so only noticeable on a side by side comparison, but the black text is feint as in other prints. Not sure if you're familiar with the demo page, but black appears to be totally missing in the picture where it should be present.
