Hello RPN139,
If you have another transfer unit in stock you could try installing that. I have copied a link to the Phaser 6180 Knowledge Base article that explains how to change the transfer unit. When you first click on the link below, it will take you to the front page of the Knowledge Base where you will need to simply type, "dark" in the search field and you will see two search results. Click on the first solution, "Dark Prints." You should see the step-by-step instructions with color pictures showing how to remove and replace the transfer unit.
I hope this helps resolve the issue!
John

HI John...
Thanks for the suggestion but it doesn't apply because this is a phaser 6180 color laser printer, not a multi-function unit. Any other suggestions?
Hello RPN139,
Please try this first and let me know if this resolves the issue.
The Auto Exposure feature prevents the background color of an original from appearing on the output copy. A newspaper or colored paper are examples of this type of original.
To enable or disable the Auto Exposure feature:
My Phaser 6180 just recently started printing a very faint screen of black (3%?) over the entire page (envelopes too), edge to edge, top to bottom, bleeding right off the paper (no white band at edges). Text and graphics print OK in b&w or color, but have slight dingy look, especially in white areas, because of the faint black. Any ideas what might be causing this, and how to fix it?
