Re: Phaser 6180MFP-D: How to enable 2-sided (double-sided) printing?

Jump to solution

6180 v3 PS driver

1. Download the exe file above (it's safe).

2. Run the exe from the folder that you downloaded it to.

3. The first screen will ask you where you want to extract the files to. I recommend extracting them to a subfolder on your desktop to make it easy to find. Choose the desired folder and click "Install".

4. Cancel the install process after the files are extracted.

5. You now have a choice of updating the driver manually within the current 6180 printer found in the Win10 printer list (easiest), or removing the current 6180 from the list and manually installing the new driver.

Let me know if you require instructions to do step 5.

Brent,

I wrote up my suggestion, but did not post it until I heard back from you. I don't have time right now to respond with details, but will try to do this tonight.

Bla bla bla <-- That gibberish was needed because after clicking the Quote button, and moving my text cursor around in the editing view, it would mangle the quoted text around the name. And I see that did not work at all either as your name, Andy, got removed from each of the separate quote sections below. I did that because I needed to respond to specific sections of topics, like I can do on any of the other forums.

It depends. I think I can do that installation myself because ...

Sure what do you suggest? I do see the PCL and Postscript drivers on the support website as I mentioned, but was stymied by too many options.

Thanks,

Hi Cheryl,

I would consider calling the Xerox Support Department, but held back due to concerns that it would require the machine to be under warranty, which it is not.  And, I've not really tried anything yet such as changing drivers etc.(the latter because I didn't know if that was the proper avenue of exploration).

I do see I have a subsequent response in this thread, so I'l respond to that in a bit.

Thanks,

Brent

You are using a generic windows driver which is not recommended for best result.

Are you still wanting help with installing the best driver? I don't recommend the global driver, but if that is what you prefer, choose Postscript. I can suggest a better option and details if you still need a solution?

I see no one has responded to this post yet. So, at this point I would recommend contacting your local Xerox Support Department to speak with a Product Specialist for more assistance. Please call 1-800-821-2797 or 1-800-835-6100.

Thanks,

Phaser 6180MFP-D: How to enable 2-sided (double-sided) printing?

Jump to solution
Product Name: Other - specify product in post
Operating System: Windows 10 x64

Hi,

At some point in the past, 2-sided (double-sided) printing worked from two different Microsoft Windows laptops to my Phaser 6180MFP-D printer.  Then it stopped printing 2-sided, and only prints 1-sided (single-sided). I want to be able to print 1-sided, or 2-sided, by selecting it from the printer properties or something similar. Do I need to install different drivers?

Details

This printer is a network printer, connected to my local area network via Ethernet cable (i.e., not directly to any laptops directly).

I have not yet attempted to install drivers from the Xerox website, because I'm confused as to which one to apply. Looking at https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us/product/global-printer-driver/downloads?language=en&platform=win... from my Microsoft Windows 10 laptop shows:

Second attempt at posting an image:

Below is what I see on my Microsoft Windows 10 laptop:

Windows Configuration

The driver I have installed currently now seemingly was installed automatically by Windows:

Xerox Phaser 6180/6189MFP Class Driver

Showing the current driver properties and its subtabs:

And the Paper/Quality subtab shows:

The Advanced... button above gives:

Showing the Ports tab shows that this is a network printer:

Showing the Advanced tab:

The Advanced/Print Processor... shows:

The Device Settings shows:

So, I do have the printer that has the duplex unit, and it was working at some point.

Printer Information pages

From the printer's front panel, I clicked on the System button and then clicked Information pages. I scanned and uploaded them here as pictures.

I do notice on page 3, on the PCL section, it says 2-sided Print set to Off.  So, is the printer somehow gotten configured to ignore the Windows drivers request to print 2-sided?

Thanks for your help!

-Brent
