Phaser 6280DN magenta is out, won't print B/W only

Product Name: Phaser 6280
Operating System: macOS 11 - Big Sur

My Xerox Phaser 6280DN has run out of magenta and I want to print B/W only for now. I have:

  • Set Admin > PCL Setup > Colors to Black
  • Set Admin > PostScript Setup > Colors to Black
  • Installed the latest Phaser 6280 driver (was using a generic Mac driver)
  • Change color options in Print window to Black and White when printing

Despite all this, the printer immediately stops after processing and tells me to replace the magenta. I got a few extra prints by gently shaking the toner cartridge, but that trick stopped working. The Phaser driver doesn't actually give me a default color setting.

Any other ideas to make this work?
