What is the name of the machine currently and what are you trying to change it to?
I do not think so, though I did read about this this weekend and you could try enabling EtherTalk.
Seems like others have had the same problem.
Via Centreware.
Click on "Properties" -> "Protocols" -> "EtherTalk" and turn this ON in the drop-down menu
Click on "Save Changes"
Restart the printer.
Double-check that its turned on.
Try to change name again.
Is there an admin utility that can configure the printer without using the web interface? Some sort of PC executable like Printing Scout or something? I vaguely remember having to jump through hoops to change the printer name a few years ago.
You could try doing a NVRAM Reset.
If that doesnt work I dont know what will, sorry.
An how to guide:

Thanks!
Still no luck. Tried it with several different computers, OSX, Windows XP, Windows 7. Safari, Firefox, IE, compatibility view, no compatibility view.
I already have the latest firmware on the device.
It's really annoying.. as I said every single other option in all the other pages I can change and hit Save Changes and it truly saves those changes. But when I try to change the Printer Name, it never "sticks". It always reverts to the old printer name. Strangely, I managed to change this Printer Name at least once before in the past 3 years, and managed to make that "Stick" but for the life of me I can't remember what the trick was.
He wrote that he tried Safari and Firefox too :)
What about cleaning ur cache in Firefox and try there again?
go to Tools -> Clear Recent History.
Do you have another computer you can try from?
update:
if this does not work, you can check if you have the latest firmware on the machine.
If not upgrade, if you do have the latest firmware and it still does not work.
I would suggest an software reset.
Thanks for the response, but restarting the printer didn't work. It's the web interface that doesn't "stick" my changed printer name when I hit the "Save Changes" button.
If I fill in data in any other field, such as Printer Location and Asset Number, and hit Save Changes, that data is saved.
If I fill in any name in the Printer Name field, and hit Save Changes, it doesn't save. The popup box tells me "Request Acknowledged No errors were reported." but it doesn't save the entry. It's like it ignores whatever I type and when I refresh the page or go back into that page, the old name is still there.
Heya!
You may need to restart the printer for the changes to take effect.
This has been driving me nuts all day today.
I have an older Phaser 6350 printer. I log into it's IP address and get the Centreware screen. I go to Properties, General, Printer Defaults. I change the printer name, hit Save Changes, the pop up box tells me it was successful, but when I refresh the screen, the printer name remains the old one.
What's odd is that I was able to do this a couple of years ago, as the printer name is currently the "old" location in the office (ie Phaser-Accounting). We are repurposing this printer to Phaser-EATeam.
I can change any of the other fields in any of the other configuration screens except this one and they save properly. If I go to Web Server / Server Properties, and change it there, it also reverts back to the old name as soon as I hit refresh.
What's the trick to changing this printer name and having it "stick" ? I've tried using the web interface with Safari, Firefox, Explorer... none of them make that one Printer Name box "stick".
