Re: Phaser 6500 factory reset procedure

HI Kimzi! Thanks for posting the default p/w. I'm sure many will find that useful. We decided to use a very simple p/w instead of a complex one like IH8XeroX. It seems that the machine does not follow your published p/w rules for alphanumeric (CAPS, lowercase, numbers) and the "special" characters like - _ + = etc. and min-max length. Perhaps it is rejecting our p/w because it starts with a CAP? Or it's too long? And after the admin p/w is turned on. new p/w typed in TWICE and SUBMIT is clicked it is UNCLEAR weather to use "00000" or the new p/w that was just set. I guess Xerox software development team needs to a) confirm the password rules, then b) update the HELP notes to explicitly outline the rules and steps to add a user-defined p/w. FYI in our environment we MUST set p/w's on ALL our printers since they are all on the network and if WE don't set the p/w then it's possible someone else will and we admins will be locked out! Thanks for looking into this. -Rich in CLE OH

Hi again, RichM!

I'm not sure about the limitations but the default password is "0000" on this machine.

Have you tried accessing the admin menu with the current password?

Best Regards

HI again! Re-opening this conversation.

We have yet another Phaser 6500 and the admin p/w setup is very squrelly. Here's the rules I gleaned from elsewhere on the site:

● Enable Administrator Mode - Select this checkbox to require entry of the administrator user name and password to change printer settings in CentreWare IS.

● User Name - Enter the administrator user name in this field, up to 8 characters in length. User name can include alphanumeric and special characters.

● Password/Verify Password - Enter the administrator password, up to 10 characters in length. Password can include alphanumeric characters, hyphens (-), and underscores (_). Verify the password by re-entering it in the Verify Password field.

We tried a short user name (all alpha, not even numbers) and a short p/w with CAPS and numbers. When I click "APPLY SETTINGS" it pops up a box to enter the username/pw combo BUT it DOES NOT accept my new UN/PW combo. If I click CANCEL then it asks to reboot the printer for admin logon. When I go back to update/change the UN/PW it does the same thing over and over, even after a reboot. Then I have to clear NVM again and start over.

A) Are these the correct limitations for UN/PW for this printer?

B) What is the factory default pw? 0000? 1234? 9999?

Please advise.

HI again!

Your suggestion "booting while holding down Up + Down arrows to get to the service menu" did in fact work.

It took some time walking thru the menu choices to find the "RESET NVM" screen but that seemed to do the trick!

Thanks for the suggestion!

:smileyhappy:

Hi again, Rich!

Ah okey, I was hoping it was that easy :).

Try starting the machine while holding down the Menu button.

If that does not work, try booting while holding down Up + Down arrows to get to the service menu.

Best Regards

Hi Rich, could it be that you're on a MAC ?

If you are, it's the username and password for the MAC account.

Phaser 6500 factory reset procedure

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Hi all! We just got in a brand new Phaser 6500 (sn YXE132600). I tried to make changes to it via the web interface but I cannot save any settings since it pops up a user/password window. I tried several combos like "admin" and "administrator" with 1111 or 6789 (default pw's I found for some xerox devices). I tried to do the NVM reset from the front panel but that did not help.

How can I do a FACTORY RESET to clear the p/w?

Thanks in advance!
