Re: Phaser 6700 - Always use tray 1 if it has paper

I have a similar issue, and found this thread looking for my problem.  I have a 6700 and can print to it just fine from two out of three Macs.  The third Mac, however, sends print jobs to Tray 1, which has no paper.  I want to get it to print to Tray 2 like the others, but cannot find this setting.

Re: Phaser 6700 - Always use tray 1 if it has paper

Hi BoatCorrosion,
Thank you again for using the Xerox forum. I am very sorry that I was unable to specifically answer your question.

I can understand how frustrating this issue can be and that a seemingly simple setting can cause much duplication of efforts.

I researched, reviewed and posted links from the Xerox Phaser 6700 Support Site for the available information: the user guide, administrator guide. I hoped those resources would have helped answer your question.

My next reccomendation would be that  you contact our product experts by phone @1-800-835-6100.

Re: Phaser 6700 - Always use tray 1 if it has paper

I am sorry but that did not answer my question. Currently if I use Tray 1 I have to select the paper size, type (glossy, heavy etc.) and color on both the program I am printing from AND the printer (when I load the paper). I do not want to have to tell my computer all the details of the paper. This is a duplicate action and quite frankly is annoying. Not all of the programs we use (some are CAD programs, etc.) have an option to change the paper tray so this is very inconvienent.   On our old Phaser we only had to tell the PRINTER what type of paper it was when we loaded it and regardless of what the program indicated it would print on the loaded paper. How can I make the new Phaser 6700 do this?

Basically I want to be able to put paper in tray 1, tell the only the printer what it is and then have ANY document I send to the printer pull from that tray. I do not want to have to specify in the progam I am printing from all the paper details.

Re: Phaser 6700 - Always use tray 1 if it has paper

Hi BoatCorrosion,
Thank you for using the Xerox forum.

I believe you are referring to setting dedicated paper mode which can may be found in the user guide on page 40 or 63
I would suggest that you review that user guide or Administrator guide if the following does not provide a solution.

Phaser 6700 - Always use tray 1 if it has paper

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

We were just sent a new printer by Xerox to replace one that they could not fix. The new printer is a Phaser 6700. Our old printer would automatically print from tray 1 any time there was paper loaded into it (exception for envelopes and labels). How do I set up the new Phaser 6700 to do this? Right now we have to go into our document and select the tray and the paper type (glossy, cardstock, plain, etc.) and it has to match whatever is in tray 1 otherwise it will not print. This is a huge inconvience.

Basically I want to be able to put paper in tray 1, tell the printer what it is and then have any document I send to the printer pull from that tray. When it is empty/closed I want the printer to use tray 2. Can this be done?
