Phaser 6700 won't print

We have two Phaser 6700dn which won't print anything, even the from the touch panel. Everything seems ok, "Ready to print", led steady green, no jobs, no completed jobs, no errors, no messages, all supplies ok, startup ok, web interface ok. Only the "Test Print" little pushbutton on the interface side does print very quickly a full page of colored step lines. I tried to reset the NVRAM, but it does not change anything. It already occured on the previous Phaser 6700 in march 2016, and my collegues just bought another identical printer, which now fails the same way. It looks like a software problem in the firmware (Aug. 2013)... or do we have to buy a Xerox every 13 months ?
