Good question.
I found this info in the CWIS Help Section:
Tray 1 (MPT) Mode - This setting specifies how Tray 1 paper size and type are determined when you load paper in the tray but do not select the paper size and type on the control panel, and when Tray 1 is used for print jobs. The default setting is Dynamic.
Tray 2-N Mode - This setting specifies how paper type is determined when you load paper in a tray but do not select the paper type on the control panel. When no optional trays are installed, N is not shown; otherwise N is the highest installed tray number. The default setting is Static.
I would take the server out of the picture and test that GPD PS driver directly from a Client if possible. (In Case of a pernmissions Issue).
On the Client, Check Printer peroperties, Go to the Administration tab and make sure it is Auto-configured to "Xerox Phaser 7500DN" and not Basic printing Mode.
My machine prints the config page from tray 2 on 11 x 17. I can also print 11x 17 Autoselect from MS Word to tray 2 with no issues.
Compare your settings to My 7500
Firmware: OS9.49 PS5.22.1
Tray 1: Plain Letter LEF Mode: Dynamic
Tray 2 Plain Tabloid Mode: Dynamic
Only other thing I can think of is an NVRAM Reset from the Front Panel: Troubleshooting/Service Tools/NVRAM RESET
WARNING: This will put the printer in a Factory Default Mode. It will Reset TCPIP and Color Calibration.
Have you contacted Support? 800-835-6100? Do you have an open support ticket/Reference Number?

Thank you for your reply. I went through these steps and here are my results.
1. The Configureation Page prints from Tray 1 on 8.5x11
2. Tray 2 is set to Plain Paper, Tabloid (11x17)
3. Not applicable since I am using Plain Paper and the printer is set accordingly.
We are all on Windows 7 here and the main driver is installed on a local server. We are using the PostScript Xerox Global Print Driver 5.433.6.0
I have tried all of the other drivers available for download on the Xerox site for this machine and this is the only driver I could get 11x17 to print properly with. All of the PCL drivers shifted the print and cut off the bottom of the sheet, also wouldn't auto select the correct tray. The older PS driver would not print to 11x17 no matter what settings I gave it. I can get 11x17 to print with the latest PS driver but still have the problem where it won't auto select the correct tray.
Another minor issue we have with this driver is it refuses to hold the setting to print in black and white by default for new installations. Once set on each users machine it will hold, but we have been unable to get it to stick as s default setting.
Try this:
1. Print the Configuration Page. Did this print on tray 2?
2. Make sure that Tray 2 on the printer is set to: Plain paper, Tabloid (11 x 17 in.)
NOTE: if this says Plain Paper, Custom.. Change tray 2 setting to Auto-Sensed.
3. If you have a paper typr other than Plain, Say, Cardstock, tray 2 and the Print Driver paper type must match.
NOTE: If tray 2 is set to Cardstock and you do not change the driver settings to match "Cardstock", the printer will use the default paper type: Plain and prompt you to load 11 x 17 Plain paper in the MPT.
Important, make sure that Page setup in your application is set to 11 x 17. If on a Mac, Make sure you have the correct driver installed and not Generic PostScript Printer
Hope this helps.

We just got a Phaser 7500DN and have not yet added an additional tray. Tray 1 (MPT) is loaded with Letter (8.5x11") paper and Tray 2 has Tabloid (11x17") paper. Currently the only way to get it to print anything that I have tried to the tabloid size is to manually select Tray 2. It is set to automatically select the tray but it is not doing it. The printer settings are dectecting the correct paper size and it is showing the 2 sizes available yet it will only print from Tray 1 with the tray selection set to Automatic. Is there a fix for this?
