I don't know…I actually didn't try it! I simply plugged the printer directly to my mac via USB and voilå, no more problems.
If you're refering to my post, when the SNMP is deactivated you will not get any information from the printer to the pc, such as toner level, tray paper level etc.
If none of the above fixes work you could always try turning "SNMP/Bi-directional communication" off.
This has been proven working when getting the "OPC" message.
To manually turn SNMP off in the config file:
Open the Terminal.app.
Can be located in “Applications” -> “Utilities” -> “Terminal”
Write as following:
Snmpconf –g basic_setup
Choose the “snmpd.conf” file, if you have two of these files, select the one named “etc/snmp/snmpd.conf”.
Write as following:
If you get a message saying the file already exists, write this command:
Restart your MAC and SNMP should now be deactivated.
You may also need to remove the Printing Scout by doing as following:
This program is included in the driver package.
Start the “Finder” and go to Applications -> Xerox -> Printing Scout.
Take the whole catalogue and slide it over to the Trash bin, right click and select “Empty Trash”. After this you will need to restart your MAC.
I have a C2424 and am having the exact same problem. I am running an iMac with Mac OS 10.6.8. I ran the patch as noted in your post, but I still receive the Ink/toner empty! Ink/toner waste bin full! error message. My jobs never print, status shows On Hold (Authentication required). I have restarted my mac, the printer etc. I have a phaaser 6120 that I can print to with no problems…however, that machine is connected directly via USB, and the C2424 is connected via my network. Perhaps I will try connecting via USB tomorrow. I hope another solution has been found for this! Also, do you know if a driver will be released for 10.7 for the Phaser 6120 and C2424? I can't upgrade this Mac because I can't afford to replace these two printers!! Thanks so much!
The latest Mac update (10.7.3) seems to fix the issue. The key after you do the Mac OS update (if necessary) is to re-install the printer. Just do a simple delete of the printer and then immediately re-install it. We tried it on bonjour and straight IP (HP Jet Direct) connections and the error triangle with exclamation point is gone.
The Xerox printer driver (v 2.0.10) does not really report the ink levels or the Waste Tray, they just say "Unknown", but at least the error in the print dialog boxes and on the printer icon (when you print) are gone. Though it does report the Maintenance Cartridge level.
Glad to see this worked. Thats odd about the driver, I only see this driver on the webpage:
The rest were pulled off some time ago....I'll see if someone can find out where you got those much older drivers from.
Thanks again for the additional info.
