Hi All,
Per our engineering department, this is an Apple issue and can affect many products not just Xerox machines.
There is an Apple bug in the MacOS 10.6 CUPS driver where the SNMP data for the Waste Tray (and other consumables) is not interpreted correctly by the CUPS driver. The MacOS 10.6 driver displays a “Waste Full” (or other consumable) warning for laser/solid ink printers, even though the Waste Cartridge is not full (or other consumable is empty). This false warning did not occur in prior versions of MacOS. This false warning does not prevent a document from printing. This false warning is not caused by the Xerox PDE's or filters.
Apple has been informed of this problem. A bug was submitted to Apple in September of 2009. The Apple Bug ID is #7265420.
The issue was not fixed when Apple Released OS 10.7 (Lion). Apple just released an update to Lion (OS 10.7.2) that had a bunch of fixes to CUPS. I currently have an email into our engineering department to find out if the issue was resolved in the update. Once I hear back from our engineering department I will let you all know what I find out.
Thank you,
Tim
Can a Xerox rep please respond to this on what we should be trying?
None of the straight forward fixes (reset devices, firmware update, software update, driver update, etc) appear to help. I have about 1000 Mac users on these units and I don't know how many more times I can be told that the computer says there is no ink.
Thanks.
We are experiencing this same problem on eight 8560DN printers. All computers printing to them are at Mac OS 10.6.8
Ink/toner empty!
Ink/toner waste bin full!
All but one of these printers will still print with the error appearing in the print dialogue box. The one printer fails to print with the same error. Resetting the NVRAM did not help.
Same problem here, on a workstation 7425, for months now. Lots of erroneous error messages in the OSX (Snow Leopard) printing panel, but never on the device panel or device web frontend. Typically 'OPC needs changing', "Wastebin full", etc, and combinations thereof.
Does not affect printing, but annoys because real messages (wrong paper size / paper out) get overlooked. Annoying.
Hi, I have the same problem on two different systems running the 2d release of 10.6.8. The problem was NOT there under 10.6.7 before upgrading. I am seeing this printing to several Phaser 8550 printers. I tried upgrading to the new 2.0.9 drivers, that did NOT fix the problem.
Yes, I did try turning it off for 30 min+. It did not change anything. I can still print and use the
printer. So the error is just that, an Error..
I've got a quite similar issue with a phaser 8400N and a 8550DP, using both Mac OS 10.6.8 and 10.7.1. Both printers report ink/toner empty, despite they are full and there are no warnings on the front panels.
Connecting the 8400N via the IP-tag today and using the option HP Jetdirect-Socket got rid of the wrong message, while using LPD or IPP the message showed up again (tested using 10.7.1). In all three cases I'm able to print, so the main problem is simply the annoying erroneous warning.
have you tried unpluging the printer for 5 minutes from the wall cord and then turning back on?

below the words "Printer Ready." It also places a yellow exclamation mark on the printer icon.
When I go to the printer itself, the control panel shows no problems. They tray is in fact empty, and the "toner" solid ink sticks are fine. When I click on the Supplies tab, it shows me the printer suopplies correctly with an "Ok" next to everything, including the waste tray.
The printer is obviously sending me mixed messages. I have repeated this on 2 Macs now, both running 10.6.8 with the Xerox driver freshly idownloaded and installed.
How can I correct this? Any ideas?
I am getting the same thing, on my 8560 N. I checked both my ink level and tray.
