Your efforts are appreciated even though Xerox doesn't appear to give you full support. It just seems that a printer with a low run rate like mine shouldn't exhibit these problems. I did work on it further (8560DN) with some interesting results.
First, I removed the upgraded memory and reinstalled the original 256Mb chip and promptly received a RAM Error. I reseated the ram with same result. Then reinstalled one 512Mb chip and error was gone.
Entered diagnostic menu and ran a preheater test but the results are in technical code. No obvious errors, just number values, which I did not record.
Then ran a DRU drop test-something along those lines. I makes a faint line on paper to show drum operating. Next time I will shoot a photo of test and results (if I run again). I did this to see if the drum was working.
Upon returning to the "Consumer Menu", I reconnected to the network and opened the centerware browser. Then selected Jobs and clicked Cancel Jobs. Printer acknowledged and began to warmup - that is to say the startup loop stopped. However, it hung up at 7% warming up. I cancelled and ran this sequence again and it hung up at 7% warmup again.
I was hoping it would start up so I can upgrade the PS firmware. I still think this may have something to do with this problem. The printer failed after upgrading the driver software but not the firmware.
A curious observation when I turned my printer around for better access to the RAM slots - there is a CR3032 battery soldered to the main board. I would guess that it's purpose is to maintain clock and settings if power is cut. It does bring to mind, however, an earlier Mac I had that would not boot without replaciing the clock battery on the mother board. The Phaser's is soldered so I can't replace it to see if a new one helps.
Is it possible that all of those users with startup loops are because of a dead battery - which can't be user replaced?
The next step might be a service call but I'm not sure my low volume use justifies the expense.
I honestly cannot answer any of these questions except the new driver old firmware one, which is No.
I do work for Xerox, but I don't have access to every printer and every firmware and every team that supports the devices. Most of what I do post is things that work on other models (A printer is a printer) or things I can find in Internal to Xerox release notes. Thi sissue is not something I could find outside of the forum.
Should I conclude that there is no fix for the loop issue, which seems to effect other models as well? Have reseated RAM (no error message though), restarted without network connected but still get loop. Is it possibly the result of incompatability of new drivers and old firmware that has locked it up? Can updated firmware be installed from the diagnostics menu? The unit will not start up normally to access the user or admin menu.
I have not update the firmware to Phaser8560_SER17_PS4.17.zip. I didn't discover update until searching for fix. Correct about OSX-was running xerox driver 2.0.14 fine until sierra update and would crash. Deleted all, as decribed in a previous response, and installed 3.123.0_1865. It ran well for a while. I needed to print a doc from my wife's employer (text and logo graphic) and the printer crashed.
Now it won't start whether connected to network or not. I am able to access diagnostic menu, cleared PS and PE VRAM and it still restarts when it hits the "warming up" message. Consequently, I can't update firmware.
What do you suggest next!
Have you, or have you not updated the firmware to the one you listed which is available here for downloading?
(I'm pretty sure the thread you are talking about was because of Apple, and it was OSX, not the printer that was crashing)
If you have updated, I would suggest disabling all print ports and SNMP, then turning each one back on individually and rebooting for each until you find the port that causes the issue (Assuming it does not reboot if the NIC is unplugged), once you know the broken port, a Wireshark trace of everything coming at the printer on that port to stop whatever it is (I'm guessing SNMP from a corrupt driver)
I have an 8560DN that starts, passes self tests, initializes, displays Xerox screen, moves to Warmup message - then quits and reboots to startup. I am running a Mac with Sierra. Xerox print driver version 3.123.0. (installed following forum directions to clear all old driver data before installing) After researching this forum I have tried:
1. the network cable remove-replace-restart multiple times
2. tried to get the service menu up to clear vram, with no success (tried back-help buttons and up-ok buttons, held during Xerox screen).
I know that the network cable is ok because I can access the printer webpage during the startup process and change parameters. The printer just doesn't register them before the reboot starts.
As I continued to look for solutions on the forums, there was a solution that suggested a postscript error and that clearing the vram may solve it. I also discovered that there is a firmware upgrade for PS 4.17 and my printer has PS 4.10.0. This is why I think there is a postscipt file hanging the unit.
This unit was purchased in 2009 and when my company went out of business they gave it to me. it has less than 15,000 prints through it. This is probably the best color printer out there. The solid ink technology has great color and is easy to use. Update the drivers, (and make the process simple) spread the word, and everyone will want one! But not until you help me fix mine!
