Poor black-and-white quality vs color (6510)

Product Name: Phaser 6510
Operating System: macOS 10.13 - High Sierra

Hi, I've been using my Phaser for a little over a year now and have been having strange problems only when printing b/w. For some reason, whenever I select Xerox B/W, my images turn out printing much more high contrast and with less detail and sharpness then when I print using the document color (which obviously creates a color cast).

I've tried playing with the Image Options > Custom Color Options to try and lower the contrast and lightness of the b/w images, but there is little difference in the output and the overall image quality is still worse.

Has anyone had any experience printing photographic images in b/w with this printer to better affect?
