Printing Dark Stocks Xerox 1000

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Hoping someone will give me some help with this one:

I have a xerox 1000 with clear and metallic ink. I need to overprint preprinted stocks with a clear or metallic pass, but if the pre printed stock is black or almost black, the press faults out at 2e everytime. I can run straight magenta, cyan, greens and anything in between - no problem. I've tried doing rich black in the chance that it has something to do with straight black and the sensor, but no luck.

I'm hoping someone has some insight for me as one of the reasons that I went with the clear and metallic is to print over black. Any tips would be much appreciated.
