Just to let you and Cheryl know that I believe I have solved the issue.....but without going through all of the steps you had listed on another post.
All I did was go to System Preferences, Printers and Scanners, and ADD the Xerox Printer FROM THE PRINTER LIST.....BUT instead of using the Xerox Phaser 6350DX (on the bottom ("USE")), I used "Generic Postscript Printer". It created a second Xerox Phaser 6350DX printer....called "Xerox Phaser 6350DX 2"....and the printing works without closing Word and Preview.
So....WHEW.....and I hope this might help another stressed Xerox Printer user with similar issues on High Sierra.
I'll let you know if anything changes, but I think I'm good for now.
Appreciate your help regardless.....
Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for your reply as well. I did click on the link you provided, but it is a bit over my head and I'd worry that I'd mess things up even more. What might you suggest? Is the Support Center free of charge and if so, can they walk me through all of the changes on a Mac?
Please, please help!
Thanks,
Grandie
Hi Joe,
Thanks for your reply!!! I remain confused, however, so perhaps you can assist further:
1. "Uninstall the Xerox": Do you mean the printer on my iMac and/or the Driver? If you mean the printer, do I just delete it in System Preferences>Printers and Scanners? There is also a "XEROX FOLDER" in my Applications folder on my Hard Drive. If you mean the Driver, I'm uncertain where that is. But....The Driver I have is a Xerox Driver that I had downloaded from your website previously, and is on this new iMac via a system migration.
2. What is an HP Jet Direct port? Where is that? I looked in System Preferences>Printers and Scanners.....but I'm clueless. I do see "HP DeskJet Series" if I want to add the Xerox via the 'Default' icon. I also see "HP Jetdirect-Socket' in the IP area, which I think you might be referring to since I wouldn't be picking the printer from a list. If that is the case, is the IP what shows up on the Printer Screen when I get information?
3. If there is a step-by-step with pictures on the forum, I have not found it. Would you be able to just send me a link? PLEASE understand that I am not all that proficient with computer technical stuff.
Any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,
Grandie
Hi Grandie,
Thank you for using the Support Forum. This post that Joe wrote earlier this year should help with the unistall of the driver. Please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance if these instructions do not help.
The Xerox is probably your default printer which is why it is the one causing the crashes.
No matter the case, uninstall the Xerox, install it again using the Xerox driver (Not the one Apple "updated" you to ever so thoughtfully when they updated your OS. And do it with an HP Jet Direct port instead of picking the printer from a list.
I'm not going to do a step by step with pictures though, search the forum if you want to find that.
Help PLEASE! I'm going crazy. Printing from certain programs (Microsoft Office 2016, Preview, Adobe CS) on a new iMac that migrated from Yosemite to High Sierra causes the program I'm in to quit. After a full day trying to troubleshoot it, I found online that the issue is the Xerox Printer, not the computer. Of note, I have a Canon inkjet and do NOT have that problem printing to the Canon.
Can someone please, please offer a solution? I love my Xerox Printer and want to continue to use it.
Thank you.
P.S. I'm not all that tech-saavy, so please offer easy, step-by-step solutions. ;-)
