i got the same error and got it to work with updating the printer
Did anyone in this thread manage to resolve it themselves? I'm having the same issue with the C405 Magenta and no amount of cleaning, leaving it off, using genuine toner etc is helping.
Hi,
I am afraid is because of non-Xerox cartridge which have not the compatible chip.
Take care, if the machine is under warranty and you use non-Xerox parts, you will lose the warranty

Do I need to get an engineer to look at it? This seems like a hardware fault to me. Please advise.

I have exactly the same problem with my Xerox VersaLink C400. The only difference is there was a bit of leakage when someone tried to remove the old cartridge. It has been cleaned up but now it won't accept the new cartridge. The new cartridge is not a Xerox brand one but is a compatible type like the old one.
I've followed the instructions here to turn off the printer and remove the cartridge and then turn it back on.
My printer still thinks a cartridge is plugged in. It shows a graphic and says 'Pull out the Black Toner Cartridge (K) and reinsert."
There is no cartridge in the printer. Any ideas?
Hi Roger B1,
Thank you for using the Support Forum. Try this, turn off the machine, remove the black toner drum cartridge, power the machine back on without the drum cartridge in the machine. When the machine powers on you should get a message stating that that the drum cartridge is missing. Power off again and follow the steps for installing the drum cartridge making sure to clean the laser lens. If the error continues please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.
My machine keeps telling me to reinsert black toner and restart device. The toner is a genuine Xerox Toner.
I keep re-inserting and re-starting, but it just keeps coming up withe same comment.
