Pleasse, fix common driver problems and your all problem solve.
Hello,
do you have any update on this subject?
Sure, got the PM.
Will have a look at it tomorrow.
I have sent you a personal message with the IP address and the User ID for the Xerox accounting system.
Being behind a proxy should not prevent this from working as it works for my PC installs behind proxies.
BTW, in the Mac community, we appreciate the proper capitalization of Mac rather than MAC.
We reserve the MAC for Media Access Control or 'hardward ID'.
Thanks
To be honest with I am not sure I would be able to install your printer, since my MACs are all on a network being a proxy and I can not alter this. But I might be able to use a 3G dongle or something similar to get the MAC on the public domain.
If you do want to send me the IP, feel free to PM me.
About the LPR method, maybe this will give some extra info. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4609.
I could have been more clear and call it the correct name according to what is displayed on the MAC O, LPD.
Also, as you notice I am not on the forum for the all day, only when I have some more time. If this is urgent, you can try open a ticket with xerox support, but to be honest, by process, I am not sure until where this will be supported...
Anyway happy to test and help you..
The installer is version 2.94.3
Once the printer installer is running, in one of the dialogs it says: 2.0.0 (1084)
I first tried 'Discovered Printers', Advanced Search and entered the public IP. The printer was not found.
I next tried the 2nd network method. After entering the IP address, it said:
The model of the printer at address rrcs-<IP address appeared here>.west.biz.rr.com (<IP Address appeared here>) cannot be determined. You may create a queue for this printer by selecting a printer model from the below menu and pressing 'Continue'
After a bit of time, the installer then says:
Congratulations! The Xerox WorkCentre 7775 "rcss-<IP Address appeared here>.west.biz.rr.com" has been successfully installed on your computer, so you can now print.
But alas, choosing that printer did not allow a connection.
I can provide you with the IP address and an account number / User ID for the Standard Xerox Accounting that will be needed to print sucessfully. You should be able to install a Mac Print driver to a remote Xerox public IP address just like I should. You can also prove to yourself that doing this with a PC installer does work.
As previously mentioned, all of the set up on a PC works, but the Mac driver on multiple Macs does not.
I have never seen the LPR method using the Mac print driver installer. And I have not seen anywhere to later change the IP address of the driver once installed. Those are features of a PC driver install, not of a Mac driver install.
Unfortunately I am not able to test the driver install to a printer address via internet, but I did try to install the printer with diferent IP to avoid using Bi-Di/ snmp. So created the printer using LPR method, used a unexistent IP address, queue name, mentioned the PPD I want to use and didnot request info from the printer... Seemed to work.
Again. This does not replicate your problem, as I have no way of getting my printer on the internet. Seems to be the closed I can get..
But I do have a question ... What protocol are you using? Are you deploying the printers via IPP?
"Have you tried to do the driver install point at non-ip port."
I do not understand the above.
I can install as a network printer or as a local printer. I do not think I can create a port and modify the dirver on a Mac. That sounds more like the mechanics of a PC print driver. Am I missing something or have you modified the IP of an installed network drive on a Mac?
If you are able to ping the printer than I assume you can access the webpage (CWIS).
Have you tried to do the driver install point at non-ip port. Complete driver install... Than create the port and modify the driver.
This will allow to install the driver without query the printer... might be of some help.
I can ping my printer from the Mac so I do have connectivity. I have connected multiple PCs without a problem. I have failed with multiple Macs. I must use the Xerox drivers for effective results because we are using the Xerox accounting system for authentication.
