Re: Repeating Defect pattern on C235

I've had the printer (bought new) since March 2022 and I've only printed ~160 pages

It's obviously not cleaning these units properly - otherwise I wouldn't be seeing these marks on all printed output.

I shouldn't need to order replacements so quickly should I?

I came to the forums because I thought that this was the preferred way to contact Xerox Support ... should I be using a different contact method? (UK purchase)

Re: Repeating Defect pattern on C235

The printer maintains and cleans both units so that is not necessary, however when they get old they need replaced. The imaging kit (drums) and transfer (maintenance kit), those are user changeable. Simply call the xerox supplies line and they can help you order the kits.

Re: Repeating Defect pattern on C235

My original post includes a photo of some of the test pages I printed, showing the defect pattern.

The PDF manual I discovered (p245) implied it's the transfer unit.

The image in your reply indicates the Imaging Unit.

Are these parts I can clean/maintain myself?

Re: Repeating Defect pattern on C235

To determine the cause of the defect:

  1. Print the Repeating Defects Page.
  2. Print eight pages on A4 size (210 x 297 mm / 8.27 x 11.69 in.) or Letter size (216 x 279 mm / 8.5 x 11 in.) paper, in the long-edge feed (LEF) direction from any paper tray.
  3. Print four pages on Tabloid size (279 x 432 mm / 11 x 17 in.) paper, in the short-edge feed (SEF) direction.
  4. Measure the distance between the repeating defects using the same reference point (for example, from the top of the first defect to the top of the next defect), and then use the Repeating Defects Page and the following table to determine the cause of the defect.

Component Repeating Distance (Metric) Repeating Distance (Imperial)

Accumulator BeltEvery four pages of A4 or Letter size paper printed LEF, or on every other page of Tabloid size paper printer SEF.
Fuser84 mm3.3 in.
Fuser or Imaging Unit94 mm3.7 in.
Transfer Roller88 mm3.5 in.
Imaging Unit44 mm1.7 in.
Developer Roller28.3 mm1.1 in.

NOTE: If it is determined that the Accumulator Belt or Developer Roller is the cause of the repeating defect, contact Support for additional assistance. All other components can be replaced without Service.

Repeating Defect pattern on C235

Product Name: Xerox C235 Color Multifunction Printer
Operating System: Windows 11

Earlier this year I bought a C235 to replace an aging inkjet.

I've noticed that there's a repeating defect pattern on the right edge of the pages I print.

I can't recall if it's been doing this since day 1, but I notice it whenever I print .. then promptly forget to follow-up and look for a solution.

Looking at the printer manual I think it's an issue with the transfer module. I measured the distance between the marks and found that although they don't start from a constant distance from the top of the page they're all 44mm apart.

I am still using the initial "starter" toner cartridges, and have not attempted any maintenance on the unit in any way.

Other than "will need to replace toner soon" there are no obvious errors or concerns.
