open up printer properties on the printserver, change to port tab, click on the button "configure port" change raw to lpr protocol, with a valid queue name

How do I change the Port Protocol? Would appreciate a Step by Step please if not too much to ask.

 

Using the Xerox Global Print Driver PCL 6.

That's definitely one thing to try. Which print driver are you using for your 4360?

 

Wow, I'd forgotten about this thread! I can't remember if I got around to trying new firmware or not. We found that using the FoxIt PDF reader performed MUCH better at printing the 'problem' PDFs than the Adobe reader.

Hey!

 

Have you tried the above solutions? if so, try changing the port protocol from RAW to LPR or LPR to RAW, and see if that helps.

I have a 4260 - recently upgraded computers to Windows 7 64 bit (previously running Windows XP) and we are experiencing the exact same thing. Howeve, the slowness is when printing ANYTHING - emails from Outlook, Word Files, PDF files, etc.

 

On Windows XP - the 4260 would be printing at the speed of lightning - no matter how many pages or how many pending jobs. There was 0 delay.

 

As soon as computers were upgraded to Windows 7 64bit - i counted at one time about 20 seconds between when one page was finished and the NEXT page STARTED.

 

 

Really could use some help!!

I'll give those a try. He called me again today, a lot more frustrated. This time he was trying to print more technical drawings, some were 36"x40" original size... The printer was pausing as long as a minute or more between pages. This time, trying the PS driver sped things up, but again only marginally. I also upgraded them from Reader 9 to X, but that didn't help, either.

Also this time, I had him move his laptop to a wired connection and try printing. No change notable. Then he tried printing the same files using a desktop running Windows XP 32-bit using the PCL6 driver. The printer fired them off MUCH faster, with only a second or two pause between prints.

Hello,

 

Xerox is releasing firmwares  to speed up printing... , contact support to obtain the latest release , ask for : 061.090.221.04800

 

Second , if you go the driver , take properties , in the advanced tab of the driver , (NOT in the defaults) , uncheck "advanced printing features" , this way you choose to print with windows print data instead of xerox data... this way the spool file will be smaller and it will speed up printing

 

Next, use the global PS .41 for this, i have the best results with that...

 

next you need to wait for new releases coming this month...  

Slow Printing PDFs on WorkCentre 7xxx series?

The people at my branch offices are nowhere near as laid-back as at the main office. They recently took delivery of a WC7132, and now one is complaining that it's 'too slow'. This user is on a Windows 7 64-bit laptop, and he's trying to print a PDF (Monochrome, 5MB, 25 Pages). What's happening is that it prints a page or two a little slower than normal, but then takes a second or more 'break' before it prints the next page. He finds this very frustrating when he thinks they 'should just have a 32ppm printer'. He claimed that it printed faster from a 32-bit system, and it did, but not much faster. The WC would print 4-5 pages off before pausing.

 

I explained to him how some PDFs were 'better made' than others, and sent him a larger 12MB, 540pg one to try. 25 pages, duplexed even, rattled off without a hitch. He was still not completely satisfied, so I got him to send me the PDF in question. I got a co-worker with an HP workstation running Windows 7 64 to print it off, and here's the results...

 

*Note: All drivers are PCL6. Xerox support supplied him with a PS driver, which I'd seen improve performance before, but it didn't do anything for this issue. It did deny him the ability to switch off color printing, though.

 

Xerox WC5632 using HP 5200 driver (because the Xerox one messes up on occasion):

First 8 pages printed quickly, then began to pause for ~1/2 second between the next 3-5 pages. So slower printing than 'normal', but still fast.

 

Xerox WC5632 using Xerox driver:

Almost no hesitation, then minimal towards the end of the print job. Very small increase in overall time to print.

 

Xerox WC7345 using Xerox driver:

First 3-4 pages printed fine, then began to pause for 1-2 seconds before the next 3-5 pages would print. This fell to 1-2 by the end of the print job. Noticable increase in overal time to print.

 

So the WC56xx series cranked out the job while barely flinching, and the WC7xxx series struggled. Why would this be, besides that the WC56xx is more 'purpose-built' towards all-out office productivity. I'd expect the WC7xxx series to not be THAT much worse. I have the stations printing directly to the printer at a particular IP address. I think this falls under the 'Port9100' category? Would there be a better way to configure these for more speed? Perhaps to take advantage of the hard drives internal to the units? I don't think they're being used under the current setup.
