I'm glad to hear that my solution was helpful. I really wanted to avoid using terminal in my instructions but I couldn't figure out how to make a .gzip file without any 3rd party applications on macOS. I have it on good authority that this won't be an issue in macOS 11 (Big Sur) but we won't know until that OS officially launches and new drivers get released for it.
Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly confirm and explain the issue at hand. Your solution works!
To answer your questions:
If you print from an application that provides its own print dialog window, and you do not open the system dialog box, your job should auto select trays correctly. Is this correct for you?
Yes. Confirmed with Adobe Acrobat Pro. Printing seamless through application.
If opening the system dialog box with the Paper Feed set to "Auto Select" the job would fail.
I posted a video......Did you follow that process or are you trying to edit an existing printer install?
Here is the link you pointed me to: macOS Catalina PPD editing video Everyone should check this out.
Since watching it I followed the steps exactly and it worked. I had not had this information during my prior attempts which was tested with a new printer install. My error was I had not performed the command: gzip for the modified file. Again, your steps provided in the video were perfectly accurate.
Thanks again!
Hi TS2,
I am the community member that posted my interim solution to the post that you mentioned. What you are describing certainly sounds like it pertains to that other discussion. Please review the following bulletpoint list.
Hello.
The issue is the device calls for media to be installed in Tray 1 even though it is available in Tray 2
The C9070 Paper Tray configuration: Tray 1 = 8.5x11, Tray 2 - 11x17. All Plain, All White.
Printing from a MAC with Xerox PS Driver 5.6.0. Applications Preview or Adobe Reader DC.
The document is 11x17 (Tabloid)
Native print dialog setting: Paper Feed > All Pages From: Auto Select. Note: "Xerox Features" does not have this selection, only Media Type and Color.
The result at the device is a prompt to load the paper in Tray 1 instead of automatically printing from Tray 2.
Selecting Tray 2 and save current settings as a Preset does not work as the preset will not hold this option but reverts immediately to Tray 1 after creation or upon selection.
I have read a post about modifying the .ppd which I have done (*DefaultInputSlot: automatic) However it made no difference for my issue. It may be found within the forum here: Bug with Mac OS 10.15.4 and Phaser 7100 driver 5.5.2
Funny thing is, the AirPrint protocol works perfectly in this regard. Auto Select performs as desired.
