Re: Take from bypass tray if paper present - Multiple copies

Well obviously the machine doesn't have this function so I would like to suggest a new firmware update includes it as this is a step backward from the WC6605 which had this facility. It will effect a few sales where they need this kind of tray switch function.

Re: Take from bypass tray if paper present - Multiple copies

Yes, it would have been better if I'd actually asked a question, whoops!

You got the gist of what I was trying to do. I want 2 copies of a 1 page document. One from the bypass tray (only one sheet placed on it) and then take the second copy from Tray 1.

I have both trays on plain, white and A4. I have the driver set on Auto Select. I print 2 copies, the first comes from the bypass tray as expected, then the machine stops with error code 024-954. The priority order is bypass 1 and tray 1 set to 2.

I have tried setting paper type and colour to Auto Select and it makes no difference. The driver version is Postscript 5.675.6.0N 2019.05.28 but I have tried the PCL and others no to avail.

Re: Take from bypass tray if paper present - Multiple copies

In General

1- in the print driver If you select a specific tray that you want to print from it , it will not switch to another tray if that tray runs out of paper "even if these tow trays having the same paper specification "

2- Auto switch Trays will not work if the trays are set to differet paper types

" for example one is plain and the other was set to labels "

3- Auto switchTrays will work if the paer size, type ,color are same on different two tarys and you select Automatically Select in the print driver .

In your case

youh have to know that In versalink C405 the Auto select option cannot be enabled for the bypassTray .

so if you have only one sheet  A4 /Plain /White on the bypass and another one sheet same paper specification on tray 1 and you tried to print a one page with 2 copies from the bypass it will feed the 1st sheet from bypass tray only with intervention to load the 2nd sheet and it will not feed from tray 1 .

and

if you have only one sheet  A4 /Plain /White on ttay 1 and another one sheet same paper specification on the bypass and you tried to print a one page with 2 copies from tray 1  it will feed the 1st sheet from tary 1 only with intervention to load the 2nd sheet and it will not feed from bypass .

BUT

if you have only one sheet  A4 /Plain /White on the bypass and another one sheet same paper specification on tray 1 and you tried to print a one page with 2 copies and you select the Automatically Select OPTION in the print driver it will feed the 1st sheet from the higher priority tray and the 2nd sheet from the lower priority tray

and since you didnt specify the question exactly ill suppose that you want to print from the bypass and then switch to the trays

so the only way it works with me

1-configure the tray settings both bypass and tray 1 on the same paper settings

2- change the trays priority to choose which tray you will start feeding the paper from

set the Bypass priority to 1

and set Tray 1 priority to 2

" the lower number having the higher priority "

3- from the printer dialog box select the Autoselect option

Regards,

Take from bypass tray if paper present - Multiple copies

Product Name: Other - specify product in post
Operating System: Windows 10 x64

Our customer had a Xerox WorkCentre 6605. Here is what they did previously:

  1. Placed 1 letterhead sheet on the bypass tray
  2. Plain paper is always in Tray 1
  3. They printed a 1 page letter from word but chose 2 copies
  4. The first page printed on the letterhead from the bypass tray and the second copy printed from Tray 1 without intervention

This is what happens with their new Xerox C405

  1. Steps 1 to 3 are followed as above for the WC 6605
  2. The first page is printed from the bypass tray, but then the machine stops, beeps and error codes 024-954

I have tried setting the bypass tray as dedicated and fully adjustable but it only takes the bypass tray automatically on dedicated. It then asks what paper you have put in every time however, which is an extra step they didn't have before.

I have tried the PCL settings for default tray and tray mode etc. but makes no difference whatsoever. Has anyone had a similar problem whilst trying to use the bypass tray?

It seems like there is an 'auto-switch' problem, as this is turned on for the bypass tray and tray 1 but doesn't actually tray switch.

I have also tried the PCL, PS, Smart and Global Print Drivers.
