Re: Toner Flaking 6280 and 6360

I have a 6280dn and have had this issue when printing out graphic intense calendars on 67 to 80lb paper.  It is finally resolved.  A printer tech came out today and when speaking to Xerox found that I have to set the tray and paper type the same on the printer properties and on the printer itself.  I set my printer properties and printer settings at Tray 2, Thick Card Stock, printed the calendar and no flaking!  It looks great!

Re: Toner Flaking 6280 and 6360

Thanks Jordan,

I'm using a good quality 20 lb plain copy paper. It doesn't matter whether I set the Xerox to a heavy stock, still has the same problem. However, if I warm up the printer before printing a sheet with large dark areas i don't usually get the problem. It's a first sheet out after wakeup issue.

Could be the fuser is getting weak and taking too long to warm up. But fusers are expensive -- as is any repair part from Xerox. So I'll just have to remember to warm the thing up before printing sheets with large dark areass!

Thanks for your help,

Steve

Re: Toner Flaking 6280 and 6360

terraprahic,

As I am not a service technician I cannot promise it would work but if I had an extra fuser I would replace it or set the paper type to a heavier set. What kind of media are you printing on?

Thank you,
Jordan

Re: Toner Flaking 6280 and 6360

Thanks for the reply, Jordan.

All the toner colours come off, leaving a white hole (with some messy dots of black and a ragged edge). The splotch of toner ends up stuck to the page lower down. Happens to dark areas of photos so we're looking at areas that are relatively high in all 4 colours.

This is a new problem. It only seems to occur on a first-out page after the printer wakes. If I reprint the page while the printer is still warm this doesn't occur.

The priner has a total of about 22,000 pages. The fuser should be in good condition.

Thanks,

Steve

Re: Toner Flaking 6280 and 6360

xraydave,

If you tried changing the paper type to "trick" the print and its still flaking it could be either the toner and/or the fuser. Does a certian color come off or all?

Thank you,
Jordan

Re: Toner Flaking 6280 and 6360

Ii should add that the paper type setting doesn't matter.

Re: Toner Flaking 6280 and 6360

I have a 6280 with a similar problem: On a large dark image a large area or two of toner (up to 2" wide) doesn't stick to the page, leaving behind a white spot with a messy ragged edge. The chunk then ends up stuck to a spot lower on the page. Mostly happens on the first page out after waking up the printer. A second try works fine. What's the problem?

Re: Toner Flaking 6280 and 6360

try your setting on either heavy card stock or thin card stock; even if the paper is not heavy stock. I use the thin card stock setting and it solved my problem. All paper I use I have to use this setting, otherwise the tone flakes.

Re: Toner Flaking 6280 and 6360

Hello xraydave,

Toner flaking is most likely due to an incorrect media type setting.  For instance, the target paper tray is set to labels or transparency when the actual media in the tray is plain paper.  Because the tray is setup as something other than plain paper, the machine will run differently which can cause toner flaking - like you're experiencing.  So, check to make sure that the media type setting is equal to the actual paper type that is in the machine.

Toner Flaking 6280 and 6360

Product Name: Other - specify product in post

I have had both a 6280DN and 6360DN for about 2-1/2 years. the 6280 has less than 5,000 impressions and has recently been printing with vivid colors, but the areas of heavy color with black have started to flake. Could this be a bad fuser with so few impressions? The 6280 fuser is about as expensive as a new printer!

Recently, the 6360 has shown signs of the same thing, but on a more limited scale. It has less than 30,000 impressions.

I hate to buy a new fuser if there is a more logical, and cheaper, solution. Thanks for anyone's help!
