Re: Unable to print with accounting on Mac OS Mojave

But Word is a 3rd party, the entire Library Validation thing is Apple, they are blocking 3rd parties intentionally, Xerox cannot be validated or get validation, neither can Canon, or Konica, or Toshiba, or anyone else. Apple wants you to use their own drivers that they supply, but their drivers don't actually do advanced features, fine for the home user, not for the person who paid to have a printer that has 6 trays and a finisher to fold and staple the paper that comes from them, all while tracking who did what and whether or not they were allowed to do so in color.

The issues occur when, and only when, you use one of their preinstalled apps. Everything else works like it always did, Xerox has found a way to somewhat work around the issue in the 4.22 driver, Canon has done so in a similarish manner (Not sure what driver, but I know they did it before Xerox did). I don't know of any other company that has managed a way around their validation (Doesn't mean other companies haven't, just that I haven't seen examples). Every time someone has stated "I don't have this issue with X brand with Y device", I have loaded up their driver and found it has no such feature to not work.

And again, this is just me troubleshooting to the best of my ability and experience, I am not speaker as an Engineer (I'm not), or a developer (I'm not) or a Programmer (I'm not), I'm just a forum user with a vast array of products (Printers) and resources (Programs/Drivers/Operating Systems) to test on.

In short, a plugin is required to make the prompt happen, and library validation means the plugin has to come from Apple itself, and they don't sell/use accounting so their simply isn't a plugin to use of theirs, and nobody else can make one.

Maybe one of the companies that make printers will figure a way around it, and I am certain when one does, they will all share it , but I haven't seen a seamless method yet, and my cohorts in other competing brands haven't bragged they have anything either.

And again, I am not speaking for Xerox, I am just stating what I think/know and have experience with, and I just happen to work for Xerox

As a follow up to my post to Joe, you can setup those defaults under Word, give them a distinctive name still, and use them under Pages. Again only with a memorized code.

I stand corrected. Accounting is now there. What is not there and what we still need is prompt for code.

This setting (in Pages for example) works great as long as you only have one code. Try it with two and you have to remember to change your parameters deep in the setup each time.

Try that with a faculty member in say Nursing or Social Work with class exams and grant proposals charged to different accounts and you will be hung on your petrard.

Progress yes. But it is still broke - go fix. If you want to see the real deal, fire up Word where it works like it always did.

Sorry, it works on mine simply by choosing Accounting from the dropdown inside Printer Features

The only options that don't work for me are those inside Internal Use Only, and Xerox disclosed that already

Yes, they did. And it still fails to provide the ability to configure options within native macOS apps (Preview, Safari, Mail). Instead of the "Xerox Features" that show in the dropdown menu, you simply see "Printer Features." You can make some changes there, but many changes, such as double-sided, can be selected but are not actually honored when printing. And the account code prompt does not pop up.

Again, I saw your workaround to configure the presets in MS Word or some other non-Apple application and then return to the Apple application and select that preset when printing. But that's not a viable workaround when we have so many different account/configuration possibilities.

I'm attaching screen shots of the printer features/xerox features drop down menus, as well as the options that show when selecting them. I'm also attaching the screen shot of my current driver, the 12/10 version.

I do not know if this is good news or bad news but...

Using the currently listed driver, version 4.22.2(2045) dated Dec 10,2018 is installed on my iMac running Mojave 10.14.3 (just updated today) printing over network to a WorkCentre 7835 with accounting activated.

My test today reveals that Apple's Pages (7.3 - 5989) failed to print and MS Word 2016 (16.21) suceeded in printing. My default settings for this printer set for codes survived the upgraded but maybe more importantly the Xerox features are available in Word to reset and hidden (again) in Pages.

The ball is in somebodies court to fix this. Sooner the better

They did develop a driver, and released it December 10th.

Re: Unable to print with accounting on Mac OS Mojave

This is really an unacceptable solution. Xerox needs to write drivers for Mojave that use sandboxed libraries instead of system libraries.

It's a problem for my users to configure a preset for specific options and account in one application, and then go back to another app to actually print the job. We have way too many possibilities with printing options and accounting codes.  It's also a problem for me to hold off upgrading our office to Mojave because Xerox is not developing solid printer drivers.

We are due for a new printer this year, and if Xerox cannot develop a driver that allows users to utilize the dialogue box to configure the options for which we actually purchased the device, we will not be buying another Xerox. Our multifunction printer has been solid otherwise, but this is a dealbreaker. And this change has been a long time coming- Apple did not make this change without warning.
