OK now it's got more confusing.

I spoke to Avery and they say most of their labels are safe to 200c, their box displayed temps are the environmental working temps ie temps they are safe to constantly displayed outdoors in sunlight once printed.

The fuser temperature on the C400 is 155C from the do not touch label.

Are these safe therefore if approved to 200C temps for printing?

Is Xerox just being cautios in saying do not use plastic / vinyl films because some are lower than the C400's high temperature fuser or is there another reason?

It would appear on the face of it that Avery's labels are suitbale or is ther some other reason they can't be used.

Anyone from Xerox support who can help?

So if we can't use plastic or Vinyl, does anyone know of a waterproof externally rated media that the C400 can print safely?

I need to print media for outdoor use.

Hi AIPr1nt, while the C405 can print lables, based on this 2018 article on the Xerox support site, the C405 does not support vinyl or dry gum labels. https://www.support.xerox.com/en-us/article/en/x_vlc400_en-O2037

They may pint without issue but even  if they do, it is possible that they will cause issues with the device.  

It could be that adding the abiliity to support vinyl would raise the cost of the device as rollers, fusing, and the Xerographic module would most likely need to be upgraded to support the higher heat and pressure required to print in vinyl or transparancies.

I wonder why Xerox say it's unsuitable for transparency therefore?

I can't understand it on a £350 business printer. It's not an entry level laser - they start from around £80 these days.

At £350 and full blown business rated machine you'd expect official transparency support.

I think Xerox need to address this in a driver update. I have to wonder if this is an attempt to make people purchase more expensive printers. However, as said at £350, this isn't a cheap business machine and other brands offer official transparency support at this price.

I had to do some tests on a WC6605 (which basically is the same with C405) for a client on transparencies with heavyweight setting with very very good results. That client use the printer just for printing on transparencies.

Hi,

I'm a home user of this particular printer and recently bought a C400 printer as it's reasonably priced and not too expensive to run.

However, upon setting it up I find there's no transparency setting in the print driver and the manual says don't print on plastic print stock.

This is a nightmare for me as one of my requirments is I need to be able to print labels for outside objects - hardly an unreasonable demand.

The standard print stock for doing this is vinyl labels, which whilst not technically plastic, are a plastic type of material.

Is it safe to print on glossy Vinyl Labels?

If not, Xerox should release a driver to make this possible, lower temp, slower feed maybe. It's hardly an unreasonble expect to be able to print glossy / waterproof labels on a printer. Pretty much every home printer out there can print to glossy / film stock and this is a business printer.

If not, all I can say is this is the last item I'll ever buy from Xerox and non of my businesses will ever been allowed to purchase Xerox. It's ridiculous you cannot print labels on a printer, and on a business printer you'd expect the ability to print transparencies, not that I want to.
