WC 7220 BW/Color count

I appreciate its a long time since you wrote this article.

I am having an issue with a Xerox Workcentre 7830 which started counting all pages within a 14 page pdf as colour two years ago.  For the 5 years prior to that there was not an issue.

I have printed your test page colorbwtest.pdf and it has counted that as two colour pages also.

When I go on to Adobe Acrobat Pro and select Output Preview (simulation profile: US Web Coated (SWOP) v2  it confims that your black is 100% Black as expected. However if I select the simulation profile: Xerox Workcentre 78xx Series.icm it shows the black text as being created from C49% M 55% and Y62%

Can you help? I know the Print Drivers have changed since we  started using this workcentre.....

Then call Xerox and have an Altboot done,there is no issue with the machine, if my file doesn't give a click charge and you are certain that your file does while not haveing any color in it there is nothing to troubleshoot.

No single pixel has color.

If a single pixel has color for any reason you get a color click charge, doesn't matter what printer.

Thanks for the tip. I'm installing the PS driver right now to see if there's any relevant option to this issue.

In any case the file you sent should probably work. My issue is when you have a raster image placed in a Word document page, and this image is grayscale - it will abe printed and counted as color.

In Windows 10, drivers are typically pre loaded, they use what is called Version 4, and are listed as "Class drivers".

Some day they will be the standard, but that day isn't now.

Just install the Xerox PS Global Print driver, create the standard TCP/IP port manually (hint,.do not select the printer from the list it provides when you run the add printer wizard)

Then make sure the Query printer and automatically select the driver to use option is not selected because it will just go ahead and install the class drivver again.

I just tested the latest Global PS driver to a 7225 from Windows 10 x64. My file is attached and is absolutely color page one, BW page 2 by creating in Indesign using K only black (By default, due to the RGB nature of Indesign, Black is made using 100% of all 4 inks.

Test with my attached file on yours.

Thank you for the prompt reply. Unfortunately none of the suggestions worked, pages with grayscale images counted as color. Could you elaborate more on:

"In Win 10 use a V3 driver, not a V4/Class driver."

How to tell the difference? Also, will using a PS driver also make any significant difference?

In Win 10 use a V3 driver, not a V4/Class driver.

Beyond that, the applications are usually the issue, for instance everything in a pdf will be in color until you enable a printer to control color, the reason being that RGB always contains color where CMYK does not.

So for Reader you would do File > Print > Advanced > Let Printer Determine Color

Acrobat is File > Print > Advanced > Color Management > None

Also, enable Black and White Synchronization in the driver for MS Office products.

Hi,

Using Windows 10 workstations, and considering a document that contains pages in both full black (or grayscale) pages and some with color content, how can I setup the XEROX WC 7220 to print (and *count*) black pages as black and color as color?

Right now sending a mixed content document to the printer it will assume color to all pages (or black if BW conversion is enabled), even if a certain page does not contain color. 

Edit: this happens when the document images contains images, even if those are BW.
