Weird symbols printing

Thanks to you both for your replies. I've figured that, yes, the font is the problem. The checkboxes are using the Zapf Dingbats which is where in the file the symbols appear. 

I've made some tests today but I doubt that this very font would be corrupted on 7-8+ computers installed from different images, languages and countries.

Basicly, I installed on my PC the ZapfDingbats (no space) and it seems to work fine on both HP and Xerox printers. But everything has to be changed to this font, otherwise the problem stands still. This is quite bad since there most likely is some of these files going around.

FYI: I tried the file on Konica, Brother and Canon printers and none had the issue.  Perhaps the integrated font in Windows 7 is the problem, I did not test with Windows XP since we're phasing it out.

Hi egck,

Let me try to explain what I think is going on. Each printer has resident fonts. They have it to save spool file size and processing time. The driver informs the windows what fonts should be downloaded to the printer and the ones that not.

Other thing is the fact that each font has two “kinds”, one is the screen font and the other is the print font.

For some reason, the font you are using is damaged in somehow or only have the screen part. It is been printed correctly for the HP because it is present in the printer and is only present on your pc as a screen font. The print job that is sent to the printer only informs this last one to use that font.

When you chose other printer it seems that the windows can't handle with a font that is not present on the printer, so it changes the font to the Wingdings font.

This is only my fist though without analyzing your pc, so I'm guessing for now.

The first thing I would do is to check the font name you are using, then go to the control panel -> fonts and delete it. Open the doc and try again. WinWord should change the font to Arial or other. This should correct your problem. If that font is important for you, you should find a copy or a similar in the internet and install it.

I'm almost absolutely sure that your problem not only happens with the Xerox Driver. It will happens with any other driver manufacture except HP.

Let me know what the result is. I'm curious too.

Print it as a PDF to see if you get the same results. Once you check that, print that PDF to the machine to see if you obtain the same results. It sounds like a possible missing font on the Xerox device - that may need loaded to the Xerox.

I'm experiencing this problem with 3 printers (Xerox WorkCentre 7775 / WorkCentre 7525 / WorkCentre 7545) in 3 different offices. It appears on all computers with certain files. All those files are printing fine on HP printers. As soon as one of those previously stated Xerox printer is selected as the default printer, weird symbols show up in Word. This is also how the file will print.

Finally, the only way to avoid this is to either select and HP printer or print the file as a PDF and then send it to the Xerox printer.

I pasted 2 pictures - the first one is how it prints and shows up in Word with the Xerox copier as the default printer, the second picture is how it should be seen and printed. This is the same document. 

Could anyone provide a suggestion? 

-I've tryed different drivers, be it PS or PCL/PCL6.
