When do I replace the Imaging Unit?

Hi,

You must a backup of imaging unit and replace it when the machine will give you the message to replace it, because YES, the printer will stop when it reach it's life.

We have had a Warning Message: 'Imaging Unit is near end of life' displaying for a while.  But, the printer is operating perfectly.  

When do I replace the Imaging Unit?   Will the printer simply stop when the Unit is exhausted, just as other consumable and repair items?  Or, will the image quality slowly degrade?

The printer status has indicated" 'Imaging Unit, Pages Remaining, 0 - 600' but that has not changed for a while.  

I have replacement supplies but am reluctant to replace a functioning part.

Yes, the printer is 12 years old but the printed page quality is as good as new.
