Ok this seems to be resolved now, not sure what really fixed it. It was also affecting other users.
Patch Tuesday updates applied to win10 computers fixing kb4560960
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4567512/windows-10-update-kb4567512
Installed on print server win server 2012r2 KB4567521 (not pushed from windows updates)
It still wasn't working on my computer after these until uninstalling the print object for the printer from the print server, then uninstalling the driver stored on my pc. Then re-added the printer from printserver (which downloaded the driver) and voila its working again.
Installing one of the newer GPD drivers, mapping to the printer IP, this printer works fine.
However when mapping to a print server that has over 40 other printers, this printer is problematic. It only prints in Black and White, from multiple applications. When you click printing preferences on the printer (on server 2012), it displays a pop-up box "The driver has detetected that you have selected Black in White in the application. For best image quality......" But black and white is not currently selected.
Currently using driver GPD PCL6 V5.733.11.0
It did work for years with driver GPD PCL6 V3.4.377.6.0 . However with recent windows updates it caused its own set of issues.
