Jump to solution

Hi,

i have applied the workaround but appearnlty it does not create the registry key. i have applied it exactly as you have explained. i tried with Action Replace, Create and Update.

is there any other way to apply the preferences?

Is that work around the best option for now?

I found a workaround, but it isn't pretty. The instructions below will help you create a registry item in a GPO that will add printer preferences per user via registry.

  1. Make sure printer is installed on user PC
  2. Set desired preferences on user PC
  3. Create or Edit GPO (Group Policy Object) on server
  4. Navigate to User Configuration > Preferences > Windows Settings > Registry
  5. Right-click in right side panel and choose New > Registry Wizard
  6. Select Another Location and enter user PC name with preferences configured in step 2
Expand HKEY_USERS, expand user GUID that contains preferences, expand Printers, expand Connections, expand desired printer
  7. In the panel below select the item DevMode (Binary) then click the Finish button
  8. Now navigate through the folders until you get to the DevMode item and double-click on it.
  9. In the Key Path field, delete all characters before Printers
  10. On my instance I changed the action to Replace in case a user already had tried changing preferences
  11. On the Common Tab, enable Run in logged-on user's security context
  12. Click Apply, then click OK

If you want to clean it up, you can cut and paste the DevMode item into the top-level Registry folder under preferences.
Now this will apply preferences every time Group Policy is applied to a PC.

There isn't much, Xerox developers are looking into it.

If you have a contract (maintenance agreement) with Xerox, call in, get to 2nd level support and ask them to do a "child spar" (They will understand the terminology), and have it tied to the Parent Spar CQGbl01004099.

At this time it can't. The issue has been reported to both Microsoft and Xerox. There is no ETA on a fix.

Workaround is to install it locally and all will be well for those who need specific preferences.

It is also unknown if it relates to the massive defaults issues seen in build 1607.

Windows 10 1607 (Anniversary Update) not taking print preferences

Product Name: Other - specify product in post
We have 4 Xerox Printers (2 WorkCentre 7855, 1 WorkCentre 7855 and a WorkCentre 4265) using the Xerox Global PCL6 driver on a Server 2008 R2 print server. The printer preferences are taken from the Server. Windows 7 and Windows 10 up to version 1511 get the print preferences correctly but the Windows 10 version 1607 do not take the printer preferences from the server. Other printers like HP or Dell take the preferences without an issue. How can this be resolved?
