If I can't use something I bought, with the drivers provided, without an "option", then that option isn't really optional, and the sales docs should say that up front.
The proper solution for this is that Xerox delivers a PCL Macintosh driver alongside the PostScript driver. If that can't be done, then contribute to the Gutenprint project so this printer is properly listed and recognized. If that's all REALLY too much to ask (and it's not, for something people pay thousands of dollars for,) then put this "workaround" in the shipping documentation. At least link it straight off the Drivers and Downloads page.
Joe, I do appreciate your assistance, but this is not a good example, for Xerox as a corporation, of customer service. It shouldn't come to this.
Rom has nothing to do with it, the PS kit is extra memory and a PS license to use.
The printer in question was sold as modular, near every single thing was an option, PS is one of them.
There is no real answer, but there are workarounds, they are not official, so there is no surprise that Xerox won't supply them. By the far the best method was always to use Apples Generic PCL, but they took that option away a few years ago in most cases, I don't know why.
But the Open source folks never let that kind of thing stop them, so Gutenprint is probably the best bet. The printer is just a BW machine, and unless you have an advanced finisher there isn't much needed. Just install GutenPrint, then install the printer and choose one of the PCL drivers added by Gutenprint. You won't get beyond 2 sided printing, but you will be able to print.
And here you can see through the page, it did indeed print 2 sided
As for which driver in the package is best, I have no idea.
WorkCentre 5325, no PostScript ROM (and there won't be a PostScript ROM,) so it's PCL6 only. The OS X driver only supports PostScript, there is no option to select PCL. All attempts to print fail with 016-749.
Whoever's running the @XeroxSupport Twitter account claims there's someone here with an answer. Prove them right.
