WorkCentre 6505 will not print black & white from desktop?

Our situation regarding black and white printing is we have never been able to locate the white toner! Apparently, we will have to settle for monochrome prints.

Hi MerryMayhem,

Thank you for using the Support Forum. Select the Black and White and it should print for you as long as the empty color cartridges remain in the machine.  To set black and white with the document open in your application, click file and then click print.  Select the Printer Features menu from the drop down list select Print Quality/Color and then select Black and White. If this does not help please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.

I am unable to print a black & white document from my desktop pc (Mac OS), I think(!) because the Yellow and Magenta toner cartridges are reading as empty.  Why can't I print a plain old B&W document??? and if there is a way to do this, what is it, please? I did order the refills, but need to print something ASAP, and am getting VERY frustrated!  Thanks for your help.
