Just following up on this one. In the end, I dismantled the printer, and disconnected/reconnected the connector that attaches to the main processor board that contains the wires which connect to the tray 1 empty sensor. Once it was all put back together it was able to detect the paper in the tray again. I guess it was a bad contact somewhere in the connection.
The printer is now able to print again.

Hi Shaneb,
Thank you for using the Support Forum. Please take a look for the instructions for loading the paper tray. Make sure you have completed all the steps. Also try removing all the paper from the tray, turn the machine off and then back on. It should show a message that there is no paper loaded, load the paper and see if it recognizes the paper. If it still fails please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.
Hi all,
We have a Workcentre 3550 which presently has an issue where it will no longer detect that it has paper in the main paper tray. I've inspected the paper tray and within the cavity of the printer, but can't see anything obviously wrong. Is there anything I should be looking for? Is this a common fault and easy fixed?
Thanks in advance.
Shane
