Re: Xerox 5855 prints extremely slow

Hi again!

Try disabling bi-directional communication (job notification) under administration -> messages and check if it's any different.

Do you go through a print server? if so try connecting the printer directly to one computer instead of through the server and see if it's still the same.

Best Regards

Kimzi

Re: Xerox 5855 prints extremely slow

where would I be able to disable this at? in the computer settings? In the administration of the printer? I see administrator under neither.

as for a print server, I have none.

Re: Xerox 5855 prints extremely slow

Hi!

Navigate to Start -> Devices and Printers and select the correct printer, right click and
choose “Printer Preferences”.
2. Go to the “Administration” tab and then Messages.

Here you should be able to disable job notification, while having snmp turned off.

Best Regards

Kimzi

Re: Xerox 5855 prints extremely slow

To be fair, you have an issue they cannot replicate making it very difficult to "fix" it.

The 58xx is in the Connectkey family, they all run identical code and there are "quite a lot" of locations worldwide that run them.

What you need to have done is to get a Wireshark trace between the printer and the PC to record all traffic between the two so that you can identify where the lag is. And since SNMP is disabled in the Printer and the PC, and 2 entirely different protocols have been used (LPR-RAW, which are ports 515 and 9100), the printer itself has been eliminated by submitting the job through CWIS.

So it is not the network, it isn't the protocol, it isn't the port, it isn't the job and it isn't the printer hardware or its firmware/software.

If you have spoken with 2nd level support in the last month there is no doubt the printer is running the Latest 072.190.145.05000 firmware and it was applied via the "Altboot no data backup, no clone" method as well. Which means there is no chance you have some odd bug in your system which makes it unlike any other printer.

If you are 100% certain you have an issue that is caused by Xerox code, have 2nd level page an onsite Analyst. They will come on site and find and resolve the issue and as long as the issue is not caused by something on the PC end it would be covered fully by contract.

Re: Xerox 5855 prints extremely slow

yes we are on the wireshark portion of the support call.

we have ensured that the newest firmware is on the printer. we were amazed that the newest firmware did not need password or username to access settings. support person was under the assumption it would be needed.

as for coming to site, the second level support people were in nova scotia canada and I am in the mid-atlantic.

thanks and Ill keep you posted.

Re: Xerox 5855 prints extremely slow

If you want it back on go into CWIS and go to Properties > Login / Permissions / Accounting>User permissions and select the Edit for User Permission Roles

1.GIF

Then the Edit for the non-Logged-in-users

2.GIF

And from here you can re-enable the lockdown of what you want.

I'm guessing here your tech that did the Altboot to the device may have disabled the login for convenience while setting it back up after the altboot and forgot to turn that back on. The oly other way I can perceive of that security not being on would be due to the latest firmware being done as an update rather than an Altboot. PM me the 2nd level persons first name and I will go talk to them directly and see what they have found to now.

Re: Xerox 5855 prints extremely slow

I know this sounds dumb, but are you using external DNS servers in the TCP/IP settings of the machine?  ConnectKey devices will perform a DNS lookup of the hostname of the computer sending prints, before each print.  If you are using External DNS servers, AND the DNS TIMEOUT is set to 5 seconds, this would cause a delay of 30 seconds before a print.

Also, what is the PHYSICAL speed of the Ethernet connection to the device.  If set to AUTO, make sure the machine is AUTO sensing a 100+ DUPLEX speed.  The machine may be AUTO sensing the network speed incorrectly.

The proper method to isolate the machine from the network, would be to connect a laptop to the device with a crossover cable and test print that way.  See if you still get the delay.
