Xerox 6015 InDesign CMYK

Hi All,

I've set up the 6015NI successfully. However, in applications such as InDesign, I only get the option to print in RGB. This for example, causes the colour black to print in a combination of the four colours.

Is it possible to print in CMYK using this printer?

Thanks :smileyindifferent:

Re: Xerox 6015 InDesign CMYK

Hey!

You can add color profiles to the driver in properties -> color matching.

You can also change profiles in InDesign by going to the Output Tab -> Convert to Destination -> CMYK Destination Profile.

Other than that you can convert the image/print to an PDF before printing.

Thats the only things I can come up with, I suggest you try that and see what happens :)

Best Regards

Kimzi

Re: Xerox 6015 InDesign CMYK

Thanks for that.

Unfortunately I can't select a CMYK profile as the driver only seems to want to give me RGB profiles or greyscale.

Strangely, the printer is selected in the print dialogue. However, the PPD is greyed out (as are some other options).

I installed the most current software from the website.

Re: Xerox 6015 InDesign CMYK

Hey!

If some options are greyed out it could be because the correct driver is not installed, or just some kind of setting.

I suggest you have a look here -> System Preferences -> Print & Fax -> Options & Supplies and here -> Print and choose “Xerox Features/Printer Features”

Also have a look in CUPS: http://localhost:631/ and chose the printers tab, here you will probably need to enter your MAC's username and password to be able to change any settings here.

Re: Xerox 6015 InDesign CMYK

Thanks.

I think I'm stuck with RGB. This isn't a postscript printer as far as I'm aware. If it was, I may have the option for CMYK.

Re: Xerox 6015 InDesign CMYK

Hi again!

I did look it up as nothing seems to be stated on the Xerox homepage, asked a friend of mine and he told me that it's correct, the printer can be installed on a MAC OS machine but only with a PCL driver.

You seem to be stuck with converting, sorry for misleading you.

Re: Xerox 6015 InDesign CMYK

Hey there

I've got it working on my Mac 10.6.7 - printing true black, seperations... postscript options good to go. The printer had been installed with the mfg drivers, and I was experiencing the same issues as you. The printer is on my Ethernet network, picked up with bonjour address. I did zero config or settings adjustment on the printer itself.

The resolution does involve work in with the terminal app - and obviosly is going to depend on environmental settings, OS.... The soloution also does involve getting X11 (developer tools) installed - this is a big download, and includes the iOS SDK - which you don't require. Also, installing the version of XCode3 I installed (3.2.6 - free with login). Has some installer issue - you need to set your system clock back to 12/01/01 to get the installation to complete.

It is frustrating that the Mac OSX Driver from the mfg. does NOT support the 6015 printer's advertised Postscript capabilities, and by default will print all colours reinterpreted as RGB to CMYK - a wasteful use of inks, and not very useful for precise work.

However, the open driver (foo2hbpl) tied into Ghostscript does work.

The instructions and driver are here - http://foo2hbpl.rkkda.com/

With Mac specific instructions here - http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/INSTALL.osx

Important! The Mac instructions are for another driver , so you'll need to modify step 5 - to use the

http://foo2hbpl.rkkda.com/INSTALL

instead of http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/INSTALL.

Also, I found the instruction on Step 4. to contain what I think is a typo, -- $ cd foomatic-filters-4.0.5 -- should be -- $ cd foomatic-filters-4.0.12 -- I think - this worked for me anyway.

foo2hbpl is an open source printer driver for printers that use the HBPL version 2 wire protocol for their print data, such as the Dell 1355, Fuji Xerox DocuPrint CM205 or the Xerox WorkCentre 6015. These printers are often erroneously referred to as winprinters or GDI printers. However, Microsoft GDI only mandates the API between an application and the printer driver, not the protocol on the wire between the printer driver and the printer. In fact, HBPL printers are raster printers which happen to use a very efficient wire protocol. HBPL is just one of many wire protocols that are in use today, such as Postscript, PCL, Epson, ZjStream, etc.

Good luck!

Thanks for that. Looks daunting!

I'll have to dedicate a day or so to this and hope for the best. :smileyfrustrated:
