Just as an FYI as I recently finally found out the answer. The FreeFlow server software has to be updated to Version 7.0 SP 2 for this to work ;)

Re: Xerox 700 B&W question

here you go :

This Solution provides the same functionally the FAST BLACK PATCH does for the EFI Fiery and CREO Color Print Severs

Perform the following setps to configure a Print Queue on the FFPS for 700 for black only printing:

1) Log in to the FFPS application as "System Administrator".

2) Click on Queue at the top of the FFPS application screen and select Queue Manager.

3) Right click on an existing Queue and select Properties.

4) Click the Image Quality tab and select Black Only in the Color Mode field.

5) Click on the Lock icon above the Color Mode field to enable the Override function. This means that the Queue setting will override the Print Driver setting for Color Mode and ensure that the print jobs sent to this queue are printed in black only.

6) Click Apply to save changes and then click OK to close the Queue Properties window. Then close the Print Queue manager.

It is recommended that you do not switch often between Black Only and Color Mode for different jobs. K-Only mode should only be used for large quantities of black and white printing. In K-Only mode the color (CMY) housing are disengaged and the associated drums and developers are turned off. An advantage in utilizing K-Only mode is that when you return to CMYK mode, the color print?s image quality resumes to high quality. In terms of serviceability, K-Only mode preserves the life of the developer housing and photoreceptors.

Differences between selecting Grayscale, 242/252/260 Fast Black mode, and 700 DCP's K-Only mode:

Grayscale: Available on page basis.  The job or page is rendered to print with only black toner, no CMY, but the printer remains in CMYK mode (CMY housings are engaged, but there is no CMY data on the page).  If many prints are run in this mode, will cause the issues noted above.  Appropriate for occasional short b/w job mixed among color jobs, or a job with a mix of b/w and color pages.

242/252/260 Fast Black Mode: Available on job basis. Puts the printer into K-Only mode; which on these printers is a faster mode (higher ppm)  than full color print mode. Appropriate for b/w jobs.

700 DCP Black Only Mode: Available on job basis. Puts the printer into K-Only mode. The 700 DCP will not run B/W prints at a faster ppm.  Appropriate for b/w jobs.

Just wanted to pass along an FYI that the patches you mentioned are NOT for the Free Flow Server :(

So until some sort of patch is made, we run color sheets (to keep the color toner replenished & moving) every 500 B&W sheets then give our technician a count of the color clicks for them to credit us.

Thanks for the info. One question though, will this work with the Free Flow server?

Xerox 700 B&W question

Jump to solution
Product Name: Other - specify product in post

Was curious if others have problems trying to run a color job AFTER running a B&W job that is a couple thousand sheets?

Everytime we run a B&W job of atleast 3k sheets, our machine requires a tech to come out due to the color being very poor and in a lot of instances requires a new developer housing.

We've tried running full color sheets after B&W to help replenish the color toner but it only works when the B&W jobs are less sheets.

Thanks for any help
