Xerox Phaser 3040 stopped working after printing few pages

Just happed yesterday. When I was printing on Xerox Phaser 3040, after a few pages, the printer stopped printing with both the ERROR and READY indicators on red (or yellow). And my laptop could not access the printer. I carefully checked the front and back inside the printer, there were no paper jam, even not a a small piece of paper. Was there any of the parts burnt out? Please help me figure out the problem. Many thanks. P.S. I checked the printer again today, still wouldn't working.

Probably out of toner, remove the toner cart, shake it and put it back in just to be sure.

Be careful, you don't want to cause something like this.

Thanks for your reply and possible solutions. I just removed and shaked the toner cart (I believe the toner cart is the round yellow part), and put it back to the printer, while the printer was turned on. Both of the indicator lights turned green, but after 1-3 seconds, they turned back to yellow (or red) again. I am also wondering why my computer can not detect the printer and tell me the toner is low?

Could you feel the toner shifting when you shook it? If not it very well may be empty and therefore you won't be printing.

 

As for the computer not seeing it, you never mentioned that in the first post so it was never considered.

Does the PC/Mac acknowledge the printer when you plug in the USB?

If it doesn't it could be the cable or printer itself, try another cable.

If it does, check in the Device manger and see what it shows up as.

I could not feel the toner shifting.

As I plugged in the USB, my laptop could not acknowledge the printer. I tried the same USB cable for connecting the other printer and my laptop, and it works fine. So what is this problem?

Your toner is empty and you would probably be better off buying a new printer instead.

If the USB cable is good then the port on the printer is dead. Unless you are really good at fixing electronics you won't be printing with that printer anymore.

Hi,

I have similar issue. I didnt have any problem with printing until now (I think that I printed about 500 pages of text in total )

Today my printer stop printing in the middle of printing job after 3 page. 

Error light turned on ( red ) and also power light is turned on (red but less bright) 

And now, whenever I turned on my printer, green light for power is turned on at first, and after 2-3 seconds error light is turned on (red light) and power light becomes also red (less brighter). (On attached image power light looks yellow)

 

Can someone tell me please what is going on?

 

I tried to remove paper, to add paper, to open and close back door, to shake toner, to unplug USB cable but without luck.

You will need to get the error codes from the printer and to do that you would need to run the software, most likely in Start > Programs > Xerox office printing > Phaser 3010/3040. Once you can get the fault codes you can look them up. I would suggest getting a service manual, I can see them available from 3rd parties by googling "xerox 3040 service manual"

I changed toner cartridge and everything works fine now. ( Toner cartridge printed under 500 pages! )
