Hey you!
When you say the top part, do you mean the ADF? The Document feeder on the top?
If so you could try forcing a lil thicker paper through manually to clean the rollers, or copy several blank pages.
Also if you get one black streak from the adf, it's probably the small window/ document glass to the left that needs cleaning.
Have a look at THIS link, I suggest you do part 2,3 and 6 at least :)
