adobe pdf print engine rip, (APPE) opentype fonts and FreeFlow RIP

Great we can drop a PDF to the RIP, but as Open Type Fonts are not downloadable to  a FreeFlow Rip the job won't print due to missing Font. It appears only Adobe PS fonts are downloadable, kind of negates the speed of a FreeFlow RIP when the file then needs to be opened up and fonts saved within PDF. When might Adobe or Xerox make Opentype fonts downloadable to their Premium RIP

Hi k_graham,

Thank you for using the Support Forum. You do not mention which machine you are using.  I would suggest checking the support pages for your machine for information on fonts.  If you do not find the information you are needing please consider contacting your support centre for further assistance.

Thanks,

Xerox 700i,  but shouldn't matter as all FreeFlow RIPs would have same issue.

I realize some Adobe fonts don't match their Microsoft counterparts for symbols and perhaps spacing of identically named fonts which is why we always previously download software fonts instead of using resident ps printer fonts, this however could be improved if Microsoft fonts were able to be downloaded to the RIP, both TTF and Opentype. I can see where Adobe might not like this as it would actually make Microsoft products work better on expensive RIPs - however the plus side is it wouldn't make Adobe rips look like garbage to office users that can properly print on a 50.00 printer and not on the 50,000.00 printer.

Re: adobe pdf print engine rip, (APPE) opentype fonts and FreeFlow RIP

Hi k_graham,

Please take a look at this FreeFlow System Guide pages 3-11 to see if any the information about downloading and using fonts will help with your application.  I unfortunately do not have a vast knowledge of the FreeFlow RIP so if this information does not help you may want to contact support for additional information.

Thanks,
