Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.. Had to chuckle when I looked at that link you sent 'cuz on the day I posted that query, I sat there 'gazing' into the paper tray and the paper feed path for both tray 1 and 2, and saw those rollers in the tray as well as the other feed rollers inside the case.. And it occurred to me that BOTH of these roller 'sets' were I involved in any event, so I got out my trusty service manual (that I downloaded AGES ago) and saw how this should be done. Removed both sets and cleaned them with my favorite 'mix' of deionized water an a smidge of alcohol, but I haven't tested this yet since photo paper and thin cardstock usage is "once a blue moon", and at the time there were more pressing matters to accomplish, but yeah, I should stick a few sheets in just to test it. And if I still have any issues, no doubt I'll be back to see if there's anything else I can do myself. Up to a point, I feel sufficiently comfortable in performing 'minor service' but beyond that point... I take it to the printer service dude a couple miles away. After all this time, I am not going to be the one to kill this baby just because I'm 'stubborn'.. (read: stupid)
Have you tried cleaning the feed rollers in Tray 1?
Yes, of course, our Phaser 6180 is 'aging' but what a workhorse! But after ALL these years of operation, now suddenly it won't pick up thin cardstock or thick glossy photo paper from the MPT (Tray1) even though it feeds 'standard old paper' from this same source just like it did when brand new. A note: we JUST had it serviced (well, just prior to the current COVID situation, so it's been like five months ago..) but still... So what's "The Real Diagnosis" from someone at Xerox ? (... NOT that I don't trust our only souce of service for this wonderful old machine but everything with him over the past few years is $200-$400 for labor and parts every blasted time...)
